Probably either ath5k or ath_pci, depending on your kernel.

    Solved,

    in /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi.conf

you need to comment out the line with ath5k

and uncomment all the other lines (with the other modules in it)

after a full installation, use the ethernet to update. expect around 200+ updates. Do not enable madwifi. Reboot. wifi should work (ath5K) after coming back from reboot.

to make wifi led work. go to synaptic package manager. install backports ( generic). see page 11 on the 9.04 thread. I posted a snapshot of synaptic.

i only used CLI to test tweaks to improve video choppiness, as discussed in the aspire one page @ ubuntu community

Undo whatever you did when you switched to madwifi?? If it's not doable by a simple uninstall, then you should:

    1. Check the files in /etc/modprobe.d and do all of the following:
    a. Blacklist ath_pci.
    b. Unblacklist ath5k.
    c. If theres a file that invokes the madwifi drivers, comment out every line in that file
    2. Check /etc/rc.local for any refs to ath_pci, madwifi, or ath5k and comment them out
    3. Reboot
    4. Come back here if it doesn't work and get some advice from someone who's actually gone through the process recently. I haven't used the madwifi drivers since switching to kernel 2.6.27.
