I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1 with ALSA 1.0.18 but I think this is more of a generic problem perhaps.

With the headphones connected and no audio playing there is a lot of hiss. If I turn the volume down then that helps but the audio becomes quiet.

Is this a Linux problem or a hardware problem?

    thanks, Andy

    Is nobody else experiencing this?

Solved by turning off the mic boost...
