Having fun on my new Linpus AA1. Too much fun perhaps -I seem to have broken my sound.

The mixer control in the control panel now has a red-crossed circle indicating, I presume, that it is muted.

When I click on it (or on the speaker in the settings group) I get the following error message:

No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.

    I guess I installed/updated a package that's broken my sound system.

How can I fix this without resorting to my recovery CD?

    bye

I have the same problem, the audio icon in the settings panel and the icon in the taskbar gives the same error message (no volume control gstreamer plugins and/or devices found). Anyway the sound works and the volume selection hotkeys works as they should, but the mic is muted. So how can I get the audio mixer working? I think the problem appeared after installing vlc or audacity, not 100% shure..

I've discovered what broke my sound/mixer -progress I guess.

I used the recovery CD (via USB stick) to restore the system to factory config and then worked through the changes I want more systematically.

The audio mixer was fine until I created a second login account (using useradd) - I like to have at least one spare account to resort to if I break something badly. This time around I can confirm that the mixer's working OK in the standard 'user' account but not the one I've created. I've added the new user to the wheel group which seems to be the only group delivering elevated privileges but still no luck.

There's something else special about the 'user' account that's needed for the sound system to work properly.

    Any ideas?

I must hunt out some documentation about adding additional logins to by AA1.

    bye

You can use the command 'groups' for both users, to look for a difference.
On my debian-linux system I would have to add a new user to the group audio.
But it seems to be different on the One.

i've got same problem with my AA1, i cant hear any sound throught the speakers or with phones connected.

No sound in the browser and no sound in the media master.

..sometimes, but sometimes the sound works fine, but if i do "pause" and "play" the problem comes again. any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you're having permissions problems. I'm not sure if this is your problem but you might want to investigate:

    "/etc/security/console.perms.d".

This has entries for the devices which set the defaults. I had to add a couple of lines to make my USB headset get the right permissions (see the USB headset thread). I haven't got around to reading up on it but it worked for me.
