I've had my acer for a while now and I've noticed a serious, sudden reduction in performance and issues with sound.

It's taking significantly longer to boot up and always seems to be running something. I went through the start up via msconfig and disabled any sort of application that would slow it down.

When any sound is played, either through itunes or just the shutdown jingle the sound seems to stutter. It's only started doing this recently.

The only thing I have downloaded recently is AVG 2011 which I have since removed. I'd rather have a virus than that program. It was constantly doing complete scans and I had never ending pop ups asking me to upgrade.

I haven't really done anything of note recently so I'm at a loose end here. If anyone has any suggestions I'd gladly try.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same exact problem...Slow running and stuttering on the start up and shut down noices....I try'd updating the Realtek HD Audio Drivers...that didn't help...Even tried the download from here... http://winhlp.com/node/10 with no change

Any suggestions from ANYONE would be great! I'm at a lose...i've downloaded all the driver updates and Windows updates i could find and nothing seems to help

BTW: I just had a fresh drive installed (MicroCenter 64GB SSD) with a fresh copy of windows XP Home and have 2gb's of Ram and a Broadcom Crystal HD Card installed...on a D250-1165

Ok so i'm 27% sure i figured out what the problem is...The Fix though....Still no idea

My SSD is set on PIO Mode, even though its set as DMA if available

I ran the utility listed above, that didn't help,
uninstalled the Primary IDE Channel hoping a reinstall would solve it...Didn't help
Downloaded the SATA Drivers from the Acer page...They state my Computer isn't up to specs to use them..(WTF)
Tried going into the Bios and Change it from IDE to AHCI...That Blue Screened the computer

I'm completely lost on this...I'm going to try a Bios update when i get home...But i'm pretty sure i'm already up to the most recent version...Beyond completely wiping the drive and reinstalling everything, which means i have to buy an external CD rom....I have NO idea what to do

Sound level is so low as to be barely audible. I have gone through the control panel and maxed out every level indicator I can find, but cannot here the speakers without an external jack.
