trust me, the speakers barely fit in place as it is. you're going to need to get the speakers out of that plastic. honestly, the exacto knife idea works the best for cutting them out. you're probably going to end up replacing the wires too, as the ones that are wired to the DV6000 speakers are very thin, and glued in, and break VERY easily.

The raised plastic square on the face of the speaker, did you remove that too?

NO, leave that in place. its the only thing that will keep the speaker from hitting the case.

yea i'll make another one to show off the loudness. i'm not going to take it back apart though and do a comparison, like the last video. i'll just play a different song.

BTW: to jerryt and everyone else ordering the dv6000 speakers: when you solder the wires to the dv6000 connector, make sure you reverse the white and the black. the default dv6000 connector goes black-white-red-black. the default aspire one connector goes white-black-red-black. so just reverse the black and white wires when connecting them to the speakers.

    EDIT: heres the video!

also if it's possible could you do a before and after vid of the speaker loudness using the same song and volume setting, as i'm still sceptical that an amp is driving one set of speakers with more power than another with no changes to the amp.

Hooray, that's just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for being the pioneer of AAO speaker swapping. You've saved me a lot of time and hassle. I just now bought a pair of DV6000 speakers from eBay; now I just have to wait for them to arrive. The waiting game sucks. Coincidentally, I just discovered a couple days ago that my AAO's left speaker is no longer working, so now I have even more incentive to do this mod. I really hope the problem lies in the speaker or its connections and not the audio circuitry. I still get left audio through headphones so that's a good sign.

By the way, once I've finished the swap I will have at least one, possibly two AAO stock speakers which will be of no use to me. I remember reading a post from someone here that one of his speakers was blown. So if that guy or anyone else here is interested in acquiring my soon to be superfluous speakers let me know. Just pay for shipping and they're yours.

I'm curious how much more power the new speakers will draw. I think I'll play a loud music file under intentical conditions before and after the speaker swap with my watt meter hooked up and see what happens.

Ok so I cut the speakers out of the plastic. I used a dremel instead of heating up a knife, I found this to be much faster and cleaner.

    Chaos:
I'm just wondering before I get to soldering is which two wires on the DV6000 connector are for the right speaker? is it red and black or white and black?

right speaker is red and black. just remember you need to swap the left speaker connection so that it turns out as white-black instead of black-white

Well the good news is that the dv6000 speakers are definitely louder than the stock speakers that come with system. They are much clearer and the treble sounds a lot nicer, if you are looking for bass these speakers won't do it for you but they are definitely an improvement over the stock ones. The bad news is that I had a hard time closing the case with these new speakers installed. Specifically on the left side, I tried to mount the speaker in the same location as the stock speakers but it seems to interfere with something. Anyway I spent a few hours mounting and taking apart the system to try to make things fit until I screwed up my speaker connection and now I have to start over again.

Chaos: can you give me a bit of advice when it comes to mounting the left speaker? did you sand the face of the speaker down a little? I know in a previous post you said that you shouldn't do this but I don't see how you were able to fit everything without creating a bulge on top of the left speaker. Thanks...

if you look at the pictures from my finished project post, you'll notice how i did it. theres that thin piece of holed plastic that they used as a speaker grill on the AAO, instead of putting the speakers right where the old ones were, slide them down so that they're RIGHT on the edge of that black plastic and they should just fit into place. you wont be able to snap the front of the case in place initially, but once you screw everything back in, it will all fit together.to give you an example of what i'm talking about, if you put the AAO's insides back together, notice where the hard drive sits, and where the right speaker is supposed to sit. if you slide thee right speaker so that it is right up against the hard drive, thats how far down the left speaker should be as well.

    hope that helps!

Chaos: Thanks for all your help, I placed the speakers exactly where you said and everything fit nicely once assembled.

To everyone else who wants to perform this mod just follow Chaos's instructions and you should be all set.

Now if only my wireless N card would arrive already so I can do my next mod! :D
