It already boots in like 15 seconds, why do you want to speed it up ? :?

I used the stopwatch, and this was my result:
    - Time needed to show the desktop: 18 seconds
    - Time until the power and network icons showed up: 40 seconds
    - Time until the green busy light turned off: 54 seconds

So, in effect I only can start the Vodafone safely 54 seconds after the start. That is not good enough.

My old NEC MobilePro 790 was instant on, instant of, which I kind of miss. But it was too underpowered to do Internet (without more efficient browser). It did email , faxes, 7hr battery.

Is it worth the risk to flash the bios with a new version?

Be realistic... It's a computer. Use STANDBY function if you need immediate power on. It should be fully up (FULLY UP) in about 15-20 seconds.

Also, remember that cell phones, if turned off, need near a minute or so to boot up their operating systems.
