While Windows 7 gets to the log on screen in under 20 seconds on my SSD AAO, it takes more than 2-3 minutes for it to shut down. Is there a way to speed this process up?

I used the same registry/services tweaks that I used for XP. In particular, disable the "Fast User Swirching" service, as it seems to be responsible for the "Logging out..." message when shutting down. That'll knock off 5-10 seconds, and most of us don't share our Ones anyway( at least, I am stingy, anyway.. .) As for the registry tweaks...there is a post in the how-to's I think about registry tweaking.

To enable this ability, right click on your star menu, and select properties. Select the "customize" button-->Advanced-->show "run command". Type "Regedit" into the Run box. Sorry, that's from memory, as I am in XP right now...but it should be close enough to get you to point B, I think. Also, make sure you have "ClearPagefileAtShutdown" in the registry set to "0". In the registry, for the 0/1 entries: 0=off; 1=on.

If you can't find the thread mentioned above, Google "speed up XP", or the like. Apply those registry tweaks. They all work; there are a few addt'l ones that are just trial and error. Play at your own risk. I play with mine alot because I have an external cd drive, discs, and backup images. If I break my OS, I can be fully functional like nothing happened in thirty-forty minutes. We are testing a beta, and sometimes you have to break stuff to figure out how to fix it... ;)

If you search by google "Shutdown Windows faster" you'll find a regedit tweak modifiying "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" from 20000 to 5000 or 2000.

This is not an advanced performance tweak, simply you are forcing stop some services before closing. If you put an incorrect value next time boot you will see some errors.

Try to find your better value for your system.

    Regards.

I have mine set at 100 with no issues...in XP and in 7... ;) No guarantees that the results will be the same for everyone, though...

run this command and it should shut down your computer in like 10 seconds .

    shutdown -s -f -t 03

The trade off for fast shutdown is that you'll lose all of your unsaved work.

I've tried everything I can find to no avail. I've disabled fast user switching. Dropped the waittokill to 2000ms. Nothing seems to work, it still takes over 3 minutes to shut down.
