I installed 8.1 on my 8G SSD and also onto a 16G CF card via an external card reader tonight. I'd like to keep Linpus on the SSD for cases where I want to boot super fast, and I'll use Ubuntu off of the CF card when I am not in a rush.

I'd like to try (for the 6th time) installing OS X on the CF card. Is there a way to split the single 16G partition in half to try a dual boot, or do I have to start over again with 2 partitions?

ah, I found "gparted". I am going to try a 6G Ubuntu Net Remix / 10G OS X mix on this CF card, and I'll leave linpus on the SSD.
