I got various info about SSD and windows XP,and it's said that the SSD drives are slow on xp because there is no driver for it.
Would it be possible to find a SSD driver for xp? or at least maybe using a driver from a Random SSD drive?

    http://driverscollection.com/?H=Express ... ndows%20XP

Theres a driver for Windows XP about a Belkin SSD drive. maybe with a little tweaking it would work? I Cant try,i dont have my Aspire one yet,i just ordered yesterday (SSD 8gig with Linux)

Interesting... Definitely worth looking into. The first step is to figure out the exact type of SSD used. Maybe one of the people that has disassembled the One can help.

I have been in contact with Acer Sweden today regarding this matter and here is the reply I received:

"The slow speed, when using XP, is due to incompatible drivers, thats why we only sell Acer One and XP with a mechanical HDD. SDD and Linux works just great."

According to the person I spoke to a dedicated "Aspire One Site" with drivers, software etc. will be up and running sometime in August.

So is it likely they will release a SSD driver for windows? Hopefully someone will come up with something before August. :)

The SSD on Acer One does not need any drivers, contrary to other HDD that are connected to PCI-E or express card.
The only driver required is the one for the ICH7, given that the One's SSD is connected to an ide port via a zif socket.
And btw, people are having the same lousy performance out of the EEE 900 larger SSD, that is similiar to the one installed on the One.
They all use the smaller PCIe 4GB SSD instead of the larger Phison ZIF SSD.

my performance seems to be very fast now, i find the following works best, no lag at all... faster than my desktop:

    - disable D2D
    - XPPro w/FAT32
    - disable disk cache on SSD drive
    - disable system restore
    - disable paging file
    - original windows drivers for the SSD

i'm very wary of disabling the page file on my aspire, with only 512mb of ram windows will be very prone to crashes without a page file.

i've disabled system restore and D2D and had a tiny performance boost, but probably nothing measurable. i've also fired off an email to acer regarding this issue - it's very likely a driver issue, so hopefully if we make some noise they'll come to the party with some drivers :).

I use it with 512MB without pagefile without any crash.
Must disable d2d first and after install the xp with fat32 format.

it won't crash straight away - but it'll happen when you max out the ram. try opening a few different programs at once - it can't take that much to fill 512mb.

yep, tried this. interestingly, working without a page file hasn't had any noticeable ill effects yet. i expect it would crash if i put the system under a fair amount of load, but at the moment it's barely usable with a few apps open so i don't think i'd really get to the stage where i exceeded the ram available.

it seems that anything writing to the disk causes pauses. i just spent about 15 - 20 minutes waiting for 14 windows updates to install - it's very frustrating to use in this state. at this precise momeent it's working well, but as soon as something tries to write to the disk i expect the house of cards will tumble.

it is worth noting that the difference between ntfs and fat32 is massive.
