Hi, I have an Aspire One A110 with a 16GB SSD.

I just installed Windows 7 RC and I find it unbearably slow; everything, from opening IE to Control Panel takes ages to respond, windows freeze intermittently and the SSD light is always on. That seems some suspicious disk swapping or very slow SSD drive (I didn't notice that when running Linpus Linux, that I used for about a couple of weeks before switching to Win 7).

I have run a free HD speed utility, Bart's stuff test
    http://www.nu2.nu/bst/
and it came out with write speeds (at rest) from 400kb/s to 4mb/s, and read speeds from 500kb/s to 50MB/s ... what's wrong with my SSD, that doesn't sound too normal does it? Or is it Win 7 behaving strangely?

    Any help much appreciated!

quick question.... how much RAM do you have? Win7 will crawl on just 512mb RAM. Have at least 1Gb to really enjoy the new OS. :)

I just upgraded my SSD model (w/ 1gb RAM) with a HDD for this very reason. Windows 7 (and just about any other OS) was unusable slow. The HDD makes this like a brand new computer. It is very snappy.

I dunno about unusable... since my AAO is still on the slow SSD and it's quick. Just as long as you do the needed tweaks and install flashpoint. It's as good as the HD version. Even ran Photoshop CS4 lastnight without any problems. ;)

HDD version + eboostr3 + readyboost is twice as good with SSD + flashpoint.

Maybe so, but it's far from being unusable.

To me, a celeron 333mhz with 92MB of ram with internet access is usable for me. So pretty much anything is usable.

Thanks for all your replies. I have 1GB of RAM, have tried a few tweaks like disabling indexing and defragmentation, still no luck.

Will install Flashpoint, see if that improves things (I cannot even imagine installing Photoshop CS4 right now, let aside running it :? ).

Lunged, what HHD did you install? I've seen a few blog posts around that but they used different HHD and different sizes, if yours works well I'd be interested to know what model you mounted ;)

That's just the thing... if that to you is usable(I'd like to see it play flash websites). Then there's really no point in complaining that the SSD on the AAO is unusable. W/c is the topic here btw. Nobody questions the HD version of the AAO is FASTer, of w/c i noticed you often try to invade threads that are about SSDs hehehe.

I did a bunch of tweaks, including EWF, but not flashpoint. I can't remember what it requires off the top of my head - SD card, flash drive, etc - but I don't have a spare one around to donate to the cause, and I figured a HDD upgrade was worth it over buying one of those.

The HDD I got was recommended in this topic:
    http://aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopi ... 43&t=12854

It works very well (and was super cheap, if your in the US). I watch a lot of flash videos on here, and with the SSD I couldn't satisfactorily watch anything.

I order for flashpoint to work, you'll need your slow SSD and your intel atom netbook.

I installed flashpoint yesterday and now it runs WAY better than before - I would say lags and application hangs are about 90% less. Also speed test now gives me steady averages of 18MB/sec for write and 32MB/sec for read - I know, still way beyond a decent HDD but still much better than before

I'll have a look if I can find a zip HDD though ;)

It is truly entertaining reading your stories about your SSD woes. It is funny because when I received my AOO 110, I was saying the same thing and then cursing myself for my purchase. My AOO came with an 8GB MLC SSD, and after running some initial benchmarking using ATTO, I saw that I was routinely getting 5MB/s write speeds and 40MB/s reads ( while still running WinXP home). It was a nightmare come true. I did some reading and investigating on what other SSD options I could find. I looked for weeks and finally found "the One". I started reading the reviews and white papers and found that the Mtron SLC SSD was the shiznit!. I bought mine here: http://rocketdisk.com/index.php?cPath=15&osCsid=40edaa83558f035eca2d4bf6d17e6859. OMG. Running still in WinXP, i saw my write speed jump to 50MB/s and my read jumped to 80MB/s!!!!! I then felt that I had the ammo to tackle Win7. Installation was a snap, and like others, Win7 found all the drivers except the "base system device". I ran another batch of speed tests and it jumped to 60MB/s write and 88/MB/s read ( and this is with Symantec Endpoint Protection running at defaults!!!!!!!). The installation of this 1.8" ZIF SSD is in reality a "hack" as the drive actually sits under the MB and protrudes a little into the open area near the wireless NIC. The guys at http://www.rocketdisk.com are phenomenal in customer service and support, when mine arrived with the ZIF connector broken off when it arrived. I know the drive is a bit expensive, but IMHO, this kind of crazy-fast, mind-numbing speed is well worth the $149 I spent for the drive. PM me if you want more info.
