Stand alone AV scanner?

Does anyone know of a good, free, stand-alone AV scanner? I'm a careful person, and would rather go w/o the extra burden of a realtime scanner, even a lightweight one. Thanks!

 

Clamwin is the only one I know that does not have a real time scanner.

 

Most antivirus programs, including the favorite freebies Avira, AVG, and Avast, will let you disable the real-time scanner. Look for an option like "Disable Resident Scanner" or something like that.

Norton and A-Squared both have free on-demand scanning versions. I usually recommend avoiding Norton/Symantec as they can slow down a system so much, you tend to wonder if you'd be better off with a virus, but their on-demand scanner only runs when you tell it to, and otherwise doesn't cause a problem. (Also, their corporate edition software is generally quite good. It's only their home edition stuff that sucks.)
