Ntfs is surely more stable of fat32 and the fat32 doesn't create a file bigger than about 4 gb

cool. im pretty sure i don't have any files over 4gb, theres a couple of HD movies im not sure about :S

probably just stick with NTFS if the performance gap is negligible and is more stable

I think fat32 for ssd and Aspire One is the best choiche. I haven't tried how big is the difference

Finally re-did the AA1 with fat32 following the steps here, I must say it is behaving normally now, still with some occasional mini-freeze, but much more usable then when it had ntfs.

What is meant here by the "compress" option...? Are you referring to enabling NTFS compression for the SSD drive? Would this really make things faster? Seems counter-intuitive...

It will take more CPU cycles to write data to the SSD, but the size of the data will be smaller.
The bottleneck, currently, is the SSD write speed, so you should see a small improvement.

Another step that could be added to this.

Get a Class 6 SD card.
Set your paging file onto it.
Set your IE temp files onto it.
Set your windows temp files onto it.

The A-Data 8gb SDHC class 6 that i'm using is pretty good. Even though its only class 6 it actually has 20MBPS reads AND writes. It actually goes faster than the stupid 150x 2gb A-Data SD card that I bought 4 this. I'll probably try the 16gb A-Data SDHC next.

i thought the AA1 could only support 8GB max. SD cards in either slot.

I might be wrong, its just something i read elsewhere on the webernet

16gb is within SDHC specifications so I doubt there's a 8gb cap but it would be great if some1 could confirm this 100%

32gb is the upper limit for SDHC architecture....

so.... fat32 or ntfs for the AA1 HDD.

    Guys and Gals,

I have managed to install my Acer Aspire One with no SSD problems by, instead of using the drivers for the Acer, used the drivers from the MSI Wind U100.

First, downloaded the drivers from the MSI site:

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func ... od_no=1474

Except for the WLAN Drivers, that can be downloaded from here:

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/a ... 50/driver/

Then, I bought an external USB DVD Drive, set the BIOS to start from there.

Installed normal XP, with FAT32 format (normal format not quick).

After lots of time for installation, installed the Chipset drivers from MSI and all of the other drivers after. Finally installed the WLAN drivers and ... Perfect, everything works just fine.

It isn't the quickest laptop I ever had ... but it's simply fantastic a cheap and very small laptop.

    SSD problems are no more.

Mind you, these drivers for the chipset are older then the ones from Acer, but who cares, IT WORKS!

Thanks to Megatech a Portuguese guy (like me) who cracked this ... here is his video:

I couldnĀ“t understand why he did that video like that but who cares the thing works.

I Formated the SSD with FAT32 (normal format not quick ...)

Booting from an external drive kinda defeats the purpose of having a small and simple laptop ... with a usb dongle hanging on the side :? Hey but thats just me ...

    Go to: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/a ... 50/driver/

Install the drivers with CCD on the start of the file name.

    CORRECTION:

No, these are the drivers for the Camera ... sorry about that (The LiteON name threw me off)

I have the battery life showing ... no need for driver ...

Yes it would ... but if you activate "Use Smooth Scrolling" in Options > Advanced > Browsing that should go away.
