Just finished installing XP and I have to say that the performance is actually a lot better than I expected. This is, of course, due to the numerous tweaks that everyone in this forum posted. :D

    My procedure:

downloaded all the drivers from ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/a ... 50/driver/ onto a thumb drive

    disabled D2D on the BIOS

installed XP sp3 (full version)jvia an external USB cd drive and formatted the ssd as 1 drive using FAT32

    waited patiently

    installed drivers one by one:
    Chipset
    VGA
    LAN and WLAN
    Audio
    Cardreader
    Webcam (use the Liteon)
    Touchpad

diasbled the following: pagefile, prefetch, hibernation and system restore

    installed the following:
    avast antivirus
firefox and opera (diabled disk cache but enabled memory cache in opera)
    flash
    zune desktop theme

The system seems to be running smoothly and not slow at all. I have 1GB of RAM installed and did not use any RAMdisk nor did I move My Documents and temp files to another location. It currently seems like a happy XP experience for me. ;)

I'll try to install other apps and see if there is a performace dip.

I reinstalled it today and spent most of the night on it. I now formatted it to Fat32 and have installed them drivers and disabled D2B or what ever you call it and it runs a treat. I thought it would be better on Fat32 as USB Memory Sticks are Fat32 (flash memory) so I thought Fat32 would be the better option. It took me a long time to get my system working properly but its working and I am very happy with the result :)

all I need to do is to install SP3 :)

Anyone here tried installing and running Windows XP SP2? How's the performance? Any issues? Do I really need to install SP3? Thanks! :)

This is where I totally disagree ... installed SP3 yesterday and the SSD access speed got a boost. Anyone having the same experience?

    Hello

I just installed nlite version of Windows XP using instructions here. Everything's pretty fine now, except occasional freezes which I suspect are caused by slow write speed of SSD (when it freezes hdd led is always lit). Seems that FAT32 is MUCH faster than NTFS. However, I have two minor problems that I wanted to ask help with.

    1) My battery indicator is not working at all. Batt.dll is present, but there's no batteries in device driver and I cannot seem to use any built in Microsoft ones, always get blue screen of death when I try. Has anybody solved this problem? It's very irritating not being able to see the remaining time (it always shows AC connected, no matter if it's running on batteries or not). It worked on Linpus so I suspect it's not battery problem.

    2) My WLAN works when I add manually SSID for my network. However, it never shows any networks available. Moreover, every time I disable and enable the wlan it loses my wlan network so I have to do it all over again. Anybody resolved this?

What service pack are you using? I'm using SP3 and have not encountered these problems.

...finally made the final effort... :D I switched to XP using Verbl Kint steps and enhance it using volcanoid additional steps...
so far the performance is reasonable and acceptable. Thanks guys...!! Let's hope ACER will update the drivers to improve the windows base AA0... :)

download wzcdlg.dll, wzcsapi.dll, wzcsvc.dll from winxp sp2 release, reboot in safe mode and copy to windows/system32.

Wifi problems seem to be in battery use only.
when i'm using only battery power my wifi connection ping is between 100 - 200ms.
ping timeouts also occur quite often.

When running power cord attached, everything is fine and ping's are steady 7ms. no ping timeouts.

so perhaps problem is at power saving in wifi use somewhere..

i'm using xp pro sp3 full install and official acer drivers.

slow and even disappearing wifi connection when using battery power can be fixed by turning "Power Save Mode" off from wlan adapter.

click start -> all programs -> accessories -> communications -> network connections

select properties from wireless network connection.

Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter -> configure -> advanced -> Power Save Mode = Off

I hope acer will fix the driver soon and the battery life can be better again when using wifi.
(i really dont know how much this will effect battery life)

they do need to pull their act together if they don't want a load of aspire ones being returned, entirely down to driver issues...
