    soccerballtux,

I followed this guide. The author uses a Sony Vaio P, but it uses GMA500 graphics and the Poulsbo chipset as well. The guide is also aimed at XP, but the media player configuration works in Windows 7.

    Hope this helps!

For clips to test, just visit http://www.moviemaze.de/media/trailer/archiv.phtml

Most of the Trailers there are also in english and various Resolutions. I´d reccomend to download something from Transformers in 1920x816, no way your Acer will handle this without working GPU hardware acceleration.

What player are you using? Same as in guide? And are you using the 1095 driver?

OK, went to the 1095 driver and had to set AVC1 in KMPlayer to Microsoft DTV-DVD Decoder, but now getting those vids accelerated. Great success!!!
edit: Turns out it was the reformat that saved me. Weird. Running 1006 and rock solid and accelerating video.

Definitely helps - thanks! So far so good, Windows 7 is working great on this machine. I'm still having issues with the screen randomly going black, needing a restart. The video issue is better than it was in Vista, but still choppy when playing HD (no biggie, I'll live) but also when playing youtube/fullscreen/etc. fullscreen (not cool). So, still working on that issue. Reading all the threads I can find on it, so hopefully a solution pops up soon for us.

    Thanks -

I take it windows 7 doesnt support any of the hardware listed in the first post or is it just alternate drivers? Might buy a d751h but this seems like a hassle. My A150 worked 100% out of the box with win7, albeit maybe not the acer drivers

    Hi !
This is my first post here, so let me introduce my self: Carlos, from Spain
My question is this: In windows 7, does the multi-touch touchpad works?
I installed the 7 yesterday, but it doesn't works (maybe with other drivers????) I downloaded the first page drivers on this post.
    Thanks a lot.

New Realtek HD Audio drivers for Vista and Windows 7 released 14 September (Release 2.33; Driver version 6.0.1.5936 dated 11 September) at:

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/

FYI: Found a great tip on another forum for sound. Go to the Realtek HD Audio Manger in the control panel and select "Loudness Equalization" on the Sound Effects tab for the speakers. This will boost the volume significantly. Also, don't forget to plug in a set of headphones and select Dolby Headphone to "On" on the Dolby Headphone tab. It resets to "Off" when you update the driver. Finally, you have to run the setup program twice if you are doing a Realtek HD Audio update; once to remove the previous version and the second time to install the update. Otherwise, you will default to the standard Windows HD audio on reboot after the first execution.

Just one thing regarding the dolby headphone function: it actually spends quite a bit CPU, approximately 15% or so. This means that for instance playing videos on youtube will be experience more stutter when enabled. I turned it off for that reason. For regular h.264 play the ffaudio plugin can be configured to perform pretty much the same channel mixing with a lot less cpu usage.

Thats a good hint Bols, thanks. Anyway, the DolbyHeadphone feature is a cool thing, i use it with a pair of Sennheiser in-ears from my iPod and was completely BLOWN away by watching a Transformers Trailer in 720p. But for daily YouTube or such, it might be better to turn off.

Just did a clean re-install of Windows 7 RTM. It found a new GMA 500 driver (I believe it said it was posted to Windows Update on 9/23/2009). Intel driver 8.14.10.2011 dated 8/27/2009. I haven't checked if it still has the corrupted graphics under Aero after sleep, but will post an update once I play around with it for a few days.

FYI, I searched for updated drivers on the Intel site to see what the changes were, but it did not list this driver yet.

UPDATE: Aero works just fine on this driver. :)

    Few questions regarding this issue:

    1) Have you tried 32 or 64 bit version? Which one is preferred? Basically, 64bit might be a bit faster, but how about driver support?

    2) Has anyone tried MCE version (or what ever the media center version is named now?), any comments on that?

Hey guys, do you recommend upgrading to 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB to use windows 7?

With Aero turn off and just Outlook and FireFox open, I'm showing just shy of 900MB in use, so I'd say 1GB will be a bit tight.

Installed 7 this morning and allowed 7 to auto update everything...

Is there something that I need to install that 7 won't by itself?

btw, I couldn't get MPC going at all... No matter what I did the audio sounded crap and it played slower than media player...

Maybe I gotta install the audio drivers manually?

    Oh! No bluetooth?

Any way to get the multi-gesture touchpad drivers? I especially like the swoosh scrolling of the original acer supplied driver...

I installed the audio and gma500 drivers and everything is fine. Bluetooth autoinstalled with the default driver and works fine as well.

I manually installed the audio drivers. All good.

The bluetooth drivers auto installed after I switched bluetooth on. lol @ me for not knowing the default bluetooth position was off. :D
