It's meant to be permanent. You can use it forever. I've used it 3 times already because Acer support is worthless. If you have a hardware problem they will keep telling you to do system restores to fix the problem - until you get fed up and make them take it in for repair.

It's the same thing as having a recovery CD. In fact, you can make a set of Windows recovery disks if you want to. I don't have the details handy, however. You would just need to re-enter your Serial Key for Windows (on the bottom of your computer) upon restoring from the recovery media you burn.

    Finally installed Win 7...

Today I finally installed Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a blank hard drive that I just installed for this installation. If anyone wants to preserve their XP factory installation, this is a pretty good way to go. The 250GB HD cost me $70 and it was the easiest HD swap I've ever done on ANY computer. If you do buy another hard drive, make sure you get a SATA drive. For some reason, the website that I bought from first sent me a PATA drive which I had to return.

So far, I couldn't be pleased more with Win 7 on my 751h Acer! Screens seem to popup quicker (perhaps due to the Intel graphic media accelerator drive that Windows install on the first automatic upgrade). I never updated any of the drivers that came with the stock computer except for a BIOS upgrade. I watched a couple of youtube and hula videos which didn't run very well with the XP setup. With Win7, the video runs MUCH smoother.

It's no barn burner, but I didn't expect it to be. After all, it's a NETBOOK and that's what I primarily use it as. My Windows performance score is 1.8 which is based the lowest ratings.

    Processor 1.8
    Memory (RAM) 4.1
    Graphics 2.9
    Gaming Graphics 2.5
    Primary hard disk 5.4

Now I will probably be spend most of the afternoon installing my 3rd party software.

Have you tested this? That is pretty darn cool! That would be a huge time saver.

I have not had the chance to, but it looks so promising, huh??

I'm very excited about it if it works as promised.

Worked for me with "google earth AND hulu desktop" at the same time. However, hulu desktop needs some work for "prime time".

Fully Accelerated Flash Video under Flash 10.1 Beta!

    Hey Folks,

I'm pretty sure I've solved the problem with accelerated Flash Video under the new Flashplayer 10.1 Beta. Try it out on your machine to see if it works! You just need the older driver and complete restarts between each step of the process.

Yep, this new driver works with Flash Beta 10.1. But doesn't work with the latest beta (Beta 2). So stick to Beta 1 if you want hardware acceleration.

If your computer no longer posts (i.e. you get NOTHING) when you turn the power on, then you will probably have to send your computer to Acer for repair. Updating your BIOS, especially through tools in Windows, always entails some risk. I can only hope you backed up your files.

Others might have other tips. On a desktop computer, you can sometimes pull-out the CMOS battery on the motherboard and get lucky enough for the back-up BIOS - if there is one - to spring into life on the next power-up. But I don't know if this is applicable to laptops.

One more thing: You may not want to tell Acer that YOU bricked the computer (they might charge a repair fee). Just tell them that your computer no longer starts. All you get is a black screen. That way they'll fix it under warranty.

    Good luck!

I don't want to alarm you and I really hope I am wrong, but it is my understanding that a failed BIOS install ruins your machine. You'd have to replace the BIOS chip and/or Motherboard, which basically means its a lot easier & cheaper to buy a new computer.

Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I've been told by some knowledgeable folks that a failed BIOS install turns your computer into a brick.

Gee... how off-topic can the last messages be? This will eventually make this thread useless!

Even though this has been mentioned in at least 2 other threads, just send it for a repair, claiming that it suddenly stopped booting without mentioning the failed BIOS upgrade. This will give you chances that it will get fixed, covered under the warranty so you will pay nothing. I wouldn't screw further with my machine (e.g. opening it and removing CMOS battery) if I were you... just keep it as the last step. Good luck!

And please, try to find a more relevant thread before posting next time. It will make easier for all of us to search for information when we need it, without confusing us with irrelevant posts!

Your point about the off-topic posts is a good one, but how about people take responsibility for their actions? He screwed up his machine by unnecessarily flashing the BIOS, he should take responsibility.

I have installed win 7 and all the latest drivers as of 3-1-10. Probem I am having is shutting down. I still have the 3204 bios. Could this be the reason for the shut down issues?

What exactly do you mean by "shutting down"? Does this happen randomly, while you work? Maybe you've got a bad battery or power cord? If you provide more details we could provide more help.

As for the BIOS update, only Acer knows exactly what each update fixes/adds etc. Acer never provides information on the BIOS updates, so these updates could potentially be the same BIOS!! If you are not scared by the fact that you could brick your netbook by updating the BIOS, I think you should do it, or at least ask the Acer Support team if the BIOS update could solve your specific problem.
