It's an AO751h with WinXP. Normally, when you close up the netbook it goes to sleep. However, my wife was using the netbook for the first time today and she used a mouse. I've discovered that when the netbook is closed and is asleep, moving the mouse will wake it up even though it is closed. And it doesn't seem to go back to sleep. That could be a battery killer if you were not aware of the behavior. At least the light in the optical mouse is lit up so you know the netbook is not really asleep. So my question is whether or not that is normal? -- Larry
Hi there, I would think that that is normal for XP as it is closing the lid which triggers the sleep and moving the mouse will wake it. But the switch won't be a full contact switch, it will just be a toggle so once the lid is closed it would need to be opened and closed again to make it sleep. I guess they don't expect many people to put their netbook to sleep and leave a mouse plugged in. Not sure if XP has an option to disable an external mouse from wake as i'm at work and don't have a laptop handy, but I certainly can't remember seeing anything. Best way is to unplug the external mouse once you've put the laptop to sleep, or plug it into the mains if available. Know it's not the answer you were looking for, but hopefully it might point you to a possible solution in Control Panel. Paul :ugeek:
I can't find any option to disable the external mouse when asleep. I'm guessing that removing the mouse after the netbook enters sleep would wake it up. So we're trying to remember to remove the external mouse before entering closing the netbook. --Larry
Good find forone!! I would like to think that should do it!! Let us know how you get on larrymcg Paul :ugeek:
My first tests show that the method works. I noticed that when you unplug the mouse that the mouse entry disappears from the device manager. But, amazingly enough, when you plug the mouse back in the device manager entry reappears and it remembers the setting for not waking up from sleep. Happiness! --Larry
