    Hi,

I am a newbie using both Acer Aspire One and Linux. Now, I desperately need Sun Java in order to use some very central websites (including my internetbank which did not recognize the IcedTea Java)

I installed Java using the instructions on macles "Installing Sun Java on Aspire One Linux", http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/09/inst ... e-one.html. All else appeared to go ok, except for these two:

    sudo update-alternatives --auto libjavaplugin.so

    and consequently

    sudo update-alternatives --config libjavaplugin.so

When giving those commands happens....nothing at all. I only goes to a new row, awaiting a new command.

Java check cannot find any Java on my system (I removed IcedTea as per instructions on macles, as it did not work with the sites for which I needed it to work in anyway), although command "java -version" in terminal does tell me the following:

    "java version "1.5.0"
gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.1.2 20070925 (Red Hat 4.1.2-33)"

So it looks like the problem is the plugin, or is it?

What should and can I do?

I am total newbie in Linux. I have only used the exact information with the commands, and links as provided on, for instance the macles site, because I have no other idea how to do this. Please, please help me on this. I really have no idea how to make this work

I have earlier also updated Firefox from F2 to F3, as per the link from http://www.acer.com/aspireone/aspireone ... nnect.html

    Thank you
