Does anybody know if it will be possible to swap out the single core atom processor from the Aspire one with the upcoming dual core atom?

It's not only CPU. Think about chipset also... Answer is NOT - both CPU and chipset are soldered to mainboard...

I could have sworn I replied to this...
It's possible with hot air rework.
Somebody (who made it on Engadget) swapped their soldered-down Core 2 with a Core 2 Duo in a UMPC.

High cost of failure, though. :)

And for a two-die Atom2 (hope the pinout's the same!) you'd need a bigger thermal pad on the underside of the fan housing, as the one that's there is only cut for the single die of the Atom.

No, 100% chance of failure unless the pin out is the same, and the chipset supports the processor. And you have doubled the heat output of the CPU without an increase in cooling, and so your system would likely fry itself in short order. Dual core Atoms won't be running in any netbook until they change over for a new northbridge (the current one generates more heat then the CPU).

Well I guess that answers my question.. Dang. I am in the market for a netbook and am not sure if I should buy or not. Has anybody heard if a new aspire one is coming in the next month or so? Everybody seems to be sold out of the 160gb xp 1gb ram version. I was holding out for the lenovo s10 because of the express card slot and high quality keyboard but just saw the unboxing on engadget and I don't think that it will be worth the extra money.

The 160gb 6cell 1gb xp version (AOA150-1447?) currently isn't for sale, which is why it's listed as 'sold out' everywhere. It should be available within the next month or so. Other than that it looks like all the netbooks are going to be the same until late next year, when dual core atoms come out..unless someone releases one with the via nano processor.

ahhh I see. So do you think that it is my best bet to purchase the AOA150-1447 when it becomes available?

I consider the AOA150-1447 the best bang for your buck. The Aspire one is probably the best size if your going to be using it often without a usb keyboard (Otherwise there's an everex that looks really nice..although it's also twice the price and has bad battery life) . The keyboard is the best one that I've typed on (Of course, I've only used the asus eee pc 901 and 701 and the hp mininote..which was just weirdly shaped to me). You get a nice hard drive, and the 6 cell battery should run 5-6 hrs without a problem.

Of course, it's all up to what you want. If you feel you need an express slot, you can go for the lenovo s10.. That also has bluetooth, but has one less usb port (Important to me, not so important to most other people). you can get a slightly larger keyboard and a 10" screen on some of these others, but then they start becoming the size of regular ultra portable laptops. (The Asus eeepc 1000H is the same size or a little bigger than some of the other ultra portables I've seen that have 12.1" screens)

The AOA150-1447 is the cheapest with it's feature set and is actually built rather well. I'd go for it over any other netbook and the other aspire ones due to the increased battery size and hard drive for only $50 more (I'm going to get a 6cell battery for mien, but it'll cost me $130 extra)

Well I think you sold me. I will see if the local worst buy gets any in stock because I got a bunch of gift cards for graduation last year.
    Anybody know the drop date?

A few online stores have been showing the AOA150-1447 to be "back in stock" on 9/18, so it might come out around that time.
