I am new to laptops, so my ffirst task with my One was to find a way to synchronize files between my desktop and the One.

I found a free Microsoft program called Foldershare which will allow me to remotely access the files on my desktop from the One and will synchronize them in both machines. The easistiest way to set this up is by setting both machines up to allow "remote access".

While this works beautifully for conventional files, I cannot find a way to access my Outlook Express files. I have multiple email accounts from different ISPS which now come into my desktop via OE.

Help! I'm going to Australia for a month and need to be able to access new emails and occasionallly filed emails (in my Sent and other Folders). How do I do this?

    File>export/import>export to a file.

Copy the file to One and then import. Your emails (even sent ones) will be stored on the mail server so will show up on both machines when they synchronise with the email server.

Unless you use local folders then they won't be but if you follow the above procedure before you leave and when you return you should have everything you need.

    You say
"Copy the file to One and then import." How do I do that, via a flash drive?

Yep or through a shared folder. When you export it sticks all the settings and emails in a file, all you are doing is moving all that data to the one then importing the settings into outlook there. It doesn't matter which method you use.

I created a separate folder which I recently used to backup my email stuff - I have separate folders - Mail Accounts, address Book and Message Files.

Next, one the AAO I suppose I open the files, one at a time and then save them to afile in the AAO? If so, which one?

If you have exported the data rather than just copied it there will be an option in outlook to import the data and settings.

    Success - Partial

Ok, I have now succeeded in:
    1. Setting up all of my email accounts in the AAO -
    2. Opening and receiving email
    2. Transferring my address book

However the emails I open reside on my AAO.

How do I move them to my Outlook Express Folders on my Desktop?

Could someone please post the file location(s) to backup/copy my AAO email's, contact list and if possible RSS feeds for a linux newbie, much appreciated.

Provided that when you set up the e-mail accounts you selected "leave copy on server", you should simply be able to launch Outlook from the desktop and it will bring the new messages over. If you did not select "leave copy on server", once it brings the emails over, there will not be a copy on the server any longer.

Look into this. It makes it easy to use multiple machines and still receive the same e-mails regardless of what machine you are running. Messages will appear as new to machines that have not pulled them before. I should say that I am assuming these are either POP or IMAP accounts. This is an option that will help you avoid the import/export problem.

If you Leave copy on server you will still wind up with replies residing in one computer or another, not synchronized...

Probably too late to be helpful, but here's what I do:

On the desktop copy of OE:

    1) Export the "Address Book" to a WAB file.

Find the store folder on the desktop.
    1) Copy the entire store folder to the AAO (via external HD, USB stick, CD/DVD). Also copy the Addressbook WAB file.
    2) On the AAO, import the "messages" from the folder you've copied.
    3) Import the WAB Addressbook (do this from the addressbook menu).

    That's basically it.
