I can't see any Operating System files on the DVD.

When I boot Acer Linux Recovery from DVD on my desktop what happens?
(What format is it? What OS is it running? What processes occur? What files are run?)

After you re-build your Linux system, you should be able to mount the DVD and look at the file system, as for what goes one, what applications are being run, since I don't have a copy of it, I can't really help. Most likely there is a post install script that runs the install routine, gathering the information needed and passing it to applications like "useradd", "parted", and a number of other applications.

I bought the WinXP/120GB HDD version of the AA1, so I don't have the recovery DVD, but based on my reading of comments in this forum, I believe the DVD contains a compressed image of the SSD that completely overwrites the contents of your SSD when you do a restore.
