I am looking for a writing app like WriteRoom, Q10, or TextRoom. It seems TextRoom is the only one that works on Linux. My question here is whether TextRoom is compatible with the Linpus Lite OS.
I am a total Linux beginner who is trying to figure some things out so all help is appreciated. here is the link to the TextRoom Page:

    http://code.google.com/p/textroom/wiki/Installation

Also if you know of any text editors that emulate the dark screen/minimalism/distraction free nature of the ones mentioned above that is compatible with Linpus LIte please let me know.

    Thank you

It should install - you'd need to install the QT4 libraries, but they are in the add/remove software list.

What does it do that nano doesn't?

Well, I'm not too familiar with nano, but I think what separates a program like TextRoom from other text editors is the focus on being distraction free. So, the program functions in full screen mode so that you can't see any of the normal distractions of the desktop like email notifications etc. You have the option to make things like word count and other basic statistics visible on the bottom of the program. Cooler options are a Timer that alerts you when you have written for a set amount of time. My favorite is the target word count, so if you want to write 500 words before you take a break you set up a timer and then when you reach that target you get a little alert.

Basically its a very simple program to get you writing. My favorite is Q10 (http://www.baara.com/q10/) but they seem to be adamant about not working on linux.

Heh. Linux has lots of editors which are distraction free - look up 'vi' and 'emacs' some time! Basically they are highly configurable and extensible terminal-based editors - run your terminal full-screen and there you are. People have done things like writing full email clinets *within* emacs, to give you some idea of their power; and there are newsgroups full of arguments over which is better.

The only real distraction is learning their syntax! Perhaps best stick with something more familiar if you've found one which
    works....

    pyroom is similar in concept.
It is in the Add/Remove Programs, and is formatted to fit the screen. See screenshot.
I CANNOT attest to its quality.

Is there a simple writing software like that with which you can map different text files to individual F keys?

What do you want to happen when you press the F keys?

I'm not clear whether you want the software to insert the file at that point, open the file for editing or what.

Open the file for editing, of course. For the convenience when working on multiple texts at the same time.
