Has anyone come up with a definite fix for the issue whereby the headphones are not detected in Ubuntu yet?

I can live with most things such as the internal mic not functioning but in order to use my machine as a skype phone (a primary reason for purchasing it) I could really do with a fix for this.

I've trawled through the forums but can't find anything solid.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Of course you could use linpus without the simple menu, it would save you bothering getting things to work.

Actually Sid I think i'm with you on that one.

With the exception of Apt, frankly I don't see any functionality i'm going to get out of Ubuntu that I can't get out of Linpus once i've got advanced mode enabled. And all this tweaking is bad for my blood pressure.

A classic case of "If it ain't broke, dont fix it".

Some run advanced mode and xfce desktop change, I run advanced mode and custom desktop.

There are threads for both options here.

Quite off-topic, but this one got my attention ;)

With linux in scope, that classic quote usually translates to:
"If it isn't broken, fix it 'till it is."

Originally I went with passing the option "model=acer" to snd-hda-intel... It kinda made sense - it's an Acer, it was in the wiki and it worked. It only allowed me to control the master volume however. Didn't think more about it for some time but eventually it did become somewhat annoying...

Passing "model=toshiba" allows me to adjust front and headphone volumes separately. Front being the internal one. Sure, it doesn't detect headphones but who uses the internal speaker anyway? Works well enough ;).

Passing "model=auto" caused it to actually detect when the headphones were plugged in, but since it kills audio when the computer is suspended it's not really much of an option...
