This acer aspire one is a disappointment.

    I like the speed of the linux system but the speaker jack and the microphone jack do not function. It is a disappointing system with much to recommend it for those who are happy without sound connections!

    How can I activate the external mic, external speaker, and serial headset?

    I have seen several confusing mesages on the forum.

    Is the problem with a poorly matched linux system? Do the external connections work for MS Windows?

    They work fine on mine. I've only seen mentions of them not working after people have changed distro's. Have you considered that maybe you've just got some duff ports?

    return the damn thing to the shop & get a replacement.
