I have the acer 150 with linux lite and I want to use my three moble dongle to connect to the web, three say it can't be done but some trawling around the web says otherwise, however the people who have cracked it are using ubanti and not lite.
when I plug the dongle into the netbook it sees it but won't load anything from it and if I try to point the network connection at it , linux shows a big red x. I cant see an option to choose modems anywhere. I have used windows for the last 10 years and this is my first time with linux so not sure how to find all those hidden options. I would be greatful for any advice, cheers Stuart

Go to a wifi hotspot (I used Wetherspoons), run the update program in settings, check all the options, and you'll get a program called Mobile Partner, which lets you connect.

Stuart, take a look at the 3/HSPDA sub forum in the Networking etc. section: everything you need to know is there. I have 3G working with LINUX.

Have you clicked the arrow to view all of the connect options?

If I remember rightly I had to load Gnome-PPP through the terminal as it wasnt on mine automatically. I cant remember the commands to be able to open it up but you have to have the advanced menu loaded on. to do this-

Open my documents, then click 'file', then 'terminal'.
    Type: xfce-setting-show
    Press enter
    Click on 'desktop' tab
    Click on 'behaviour' tab
Tick show desktop menu on right click

I think gnome-ppp should come up in the xfce menu then. Then just go back and work through the previous link

Did you go down the gnome-ppp route matey? It was quite easy once I found that link. Only thing I have found is if you put the netbook to sleep or close the lid down you need to restart the system else it wont re3cognise the dongle again.

There are a couple things I want to try out, I have given the aspire one a windows style menu getting rid of the linux lite preloaded style, I have seen people talk about installing madwifi for the wifi adapter but cant get any answers on what benefits this has............also want to install some sort of wifi sniffer  but its all getting a bit complex with the first time using Linux.

yes mate, i used the gnome, only issue i have, is it wasnt on the system already, and i had to download it, and it asks for a root password each time i use it, and i cant see it to add to the desktop either, but other than that, it works well so far

    thanks again
