I uninstalled AME (Acer Mobile Email) although I had to go and delete the 1.1 Gbytes of files manually afterwards.

Then I installed Thunderbird using package manager and it works.

But the AME.desktop has disappeared and when I change the group-app.xml and add the thunderbird's .desktop, it doesn't show anything. I've done this before for other applications and I remember VLC's icon link was named "VLC media player.desktop" but it had to be pointed to in group-app.xml as "livna-vlc.desktop".

It seems Thunderbird also has another name for the desktop icon but I don't know where or how to find it. Any ideas what name or line I shall include on group-app.xml to have the thunderbird link on the desktop? If you have a running thunderbird you can just view the file using mousepad and tell me, that would be great :)

Using the file manager, and switching the left pane to show the alternative to "shortcuts" (sorry, don't have the machine in front of me so typing based on memory), you should be able to do a search on the root drive / for thunderbird* which should find the .desktop filename you need to link to.

    OK, it worked.

For those who may have the same problem in the future:

To have the link (desktop icon shortcut) for Thunderbird instead of the Acer One Mail Client (AME) on your desktop

    create the line

    <app sequence="3" acs="email">/usr/share/applications/mozilla-thunderbird.desktop</app>

instead of the AME.desktop line in the file
    /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml

    Reboot.

    Thanks for the help :)
