As a Linux newbie, I am finding there are way too many ways to do things. I want to install Tbird since I can't get Acer Mail to work with my gmail account.

I have gone so far as to download the compressed file from the Tbird site to my downloads directory. But then when I look in add/remove programs, there is Tbird, though in a slightly older version.

What is the best way to do this? Especially if it using the file from the TBird site, what are the steps, including for example, what directory from which to deccompress the downloaded file, and complete through putting the icon on both desktops.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ken

I don't remember how I installed Thunderbird, but I know I have the newer one on this little machine. Use the one in the repos and maybe it will update?

Oh, and the webmail add-on is great.
