I've been less than thrilled with the performance of my 751 running Vista, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD. I've been very, very close to installing XP, but may not have to now that I discovered this fix.

I found one way to drastically improve performance in navigating and rendering web pages:

Right click on "My Computer", click "properties," then "Advanced System Settings" under "tasks" in the top left corner of the window.

It will open up a panel with 5 tabs, should already be on the "Advanced" tab. In the "performance" box, click the "settings" button and then UN-check the box for "Smooth edges of screen fonts."

I had unchecked most of the other boxes with positive results, but unchecking "smooth screen fonts" REALLY made a HUGE difference in the performance of my 751 on the internet; with Gmail, Google maps, etc. Pages loaded & performed MUCH, much, much faster; so much better that I now may not switch to XP.

I also recommend UN-checking all of the other boxes, and your system should run much better, or you could just make the selection to "Adjust for best performance" and it will automatically un-check all the boxes for you. If you have not already, also switch to windows basic or classic theme and ditch the default Vista theme.

There are a couple that I have left checked, such as "use drop shadows for icons on desktop" because if you uncheck that, you will get ugly boxes around your icon labels and they won't appear to rest neatly on your desktop background. Options such as that don't seem to make a big difference in system performance.

Play with checking and unchecking those boxes as you can't screw anything up and if you don't like what un-checking a box does, you can just re-check it and get the feature back instantly.

Un-checking these boxes should make a drastic improvement in your system's performance!

    Hope this helps!
