My problem is that I started with a Windows machine, and was hoping to be able to put a Linux distro onto it to experiment with it while on the road (i.e. 1 machine only... the AAO)

The little gem has been a delight to use on the road (out performing it's bigger brothers in certain apps) but I haven't figured out the tricks of linux distros yet well enough to get them to install where I want them to, and especially without having an external cd rom...

I'd just like to put a distro onto my 8gb SDHC card and I don't even care about having it have to hit the hard drive to start it off... just having the dual boot without a bunch of fiddling around... of course, I guess that's what linux is about, fiddling around....

And I also started out back in the day, and spent many many years using the Amiga OS... XP finally impressed me more, but also horrified me with the sheer bulk...

So, any suggestions? I've read through everything, and even got the ubunto inside windows thing to work on my c: drive, but I want it out on the ssd, for several reasons...

When i bought AA1 with linpus the first thng i had decided to do is to install Xp.But later i gave linpus a chance.I had to fiddle with fresh installation of linpus for around a week to make it work my way(mostly software installation).macles guide and this forum helped me a lot. After that i really love the way it works.Short boot time is a big plus and because of this start up time advantage iam not installing linux4one/Xp.But iam worried about updates, as linpus is very old(in linux world). But iam going stick with linpus for some time.Everything works for me so iam not going to mess AA1 with another OS installation as the person who does countless installation of OS in me has died some years back.

I am planning to make the switch back to linpus asap, I now just have to decide wether to buy a bigger memory stick or a usb dvd drive... I am thinking the USB dvd maybemore practical.
