I have been using a optical mouse. I found, when out of town without the mouse, that the touch pad no longer functioned.

It would appear that when you have been using a mouse, the touch pad becomes disabled even when the mouse is not connected.

Is this true and if so, how does one get around it? It would seem to me that if a mouse is not connected, the touch pad should be active by default.

My unit is using Windows XP.

    Thanks for any help.

Try holding Fn and pressing the Function keys, I think it's F7/F8...

That was it. Thank you very much for your help. This is the first laptop I've dealt with that disabled the touch pad when a mouse was plugged in.
