all feedback will be helpful in me making the decision to do this.

It all depends on how much you click options on your screen. Touchscreens are a luxury of course, since you already have a mouse. Its fun modding. The touchscreen works really nice with the stylus versus just using your finger.

i'd say go for it..ive loved mine ever since...and never used a mouse since..just the trackpad abit..its great

the trouble with the aao is that because of its size, you're always very close to it, especially when you're lying down, so it gives you that extra space that makes it feel bigger..well to me anyways :?

There are a few threads that may help you with this.
    I'll link some.

viewtopic.php?f=43&t=12008 -A thread I started, indirect to your post, But may help.

If those don't help, use the search feature. I'm not trying to be a smartass but the search feature helps sometimes. Although it could be cluttered. So I hope I am helping.

It seems allot of people think it's worth it. Also many love this thing.

i did this mod a few weeks ago. now that i have it, i want to convert all of my monitors to touchscreens. too bad i cant seem to find a 14.1 inch version anywhere! and im sure two 24 inch versions wouldnt be cheap. let me just say, once you do it you'll find yourself using it 70% of the time. even if its just to draw a stupid picture for no reason :p

I find drag-scrolling in FireFox alone is worth the touchscreen mod.

The degredation to picture quality (grainey-ness) is noticable, but doesn't have a significant impact on usability.
Only thing I regret is the damage I did to the 2 clips on the bottom edge of the screen bezel.

I think the knowledge and confidence from performing the mod is probably the most valuable thing for me; i've already started planning the mod to incorporate a hole to mount my touch pen :D

Oh, and the bragging rights can't be understated, especially when several friends own unmodded AA1's

    Hi

I've had the touch screen mod on my AAO for about 4-5 months, its usefulness to "ME" I find depends on the operating system that I'm using, currently multibooting XP Pro, Original Linpus lite, Ubuntu 8.1, Fedora 10, Mandriva 2009 One, I've also tried Windows 7 beta and OSX

Firstly I've only gotten the touchscreen to work with Windows (both), Linpus and Ubuntu 8.1 (Ubuntu being the hardest followed by Windows 7) :)

For XP Pro I have found I've hardly used the touch screen, I've not modded it to 'Ape' vista so find the icons a bit small and much less user friendly :(

Windows 7 I found was brilliant as you tend towards larger icons, and voice command (I would expect Vista to be o.k. as well) :D

Ubuntu left as standard I didn't feel was that useful and similar to XP, however I tried using one of the interfaces designed for small screens and found this again worked very well, however personally didn’t like the interface quite so much. :(
I would expect this to be true of all the Linux's o.k. if you like the interface, poor if you keep it standard.

Linpus light with the touchscreen again is very good as long as you keep the original interface, and add your own programs to the separate 'windows' :)

Hope this is of some use, have others found similar ?

One other thing if you can solder go for this version, I purchased the solderless version, I've Bluetooth on the USB port under the WIFI card and have now moved the touch screen interface to the CN11 USB this saves a lot of space in the hinge area of the PC I've used a 3.3V rail (near the non existant SIM card slot for power) as the whole board was supplied with 3.3V from the camera port originally. all the additional ports on the i/f + hub are unused... :x

    Regards

    Graham
