I'm at wits end with my touchpad on my AAO netbook. Very often after I scroll down on a page using the up and down arrows on the right, the page will "automatically" scroll when I return the cursor to the main page.

Also, very often a gray double circle appears under the cursor, and I can't move the cursor for a few seconds. I took a picture of it, and it is posted here:

Can someone please tell me what causes this gray circle to appear?

    Thanks!!

Along the right edge of the touchpad (about the rightmost quarter inch) is the virtual scrolling area. It performs the same function as the scroll wheel on a regular mouse. The circle you see indicates that it's ready to perform a "circular scroll" Go to a page that you can scroll on and pull your finger down the right edge of the touchpad, when you reach the bottom drag your finger to the center and make a small clockwise circle, you'll continue to scroll down as long as you circle your finger. If you make a counter-clockwise circle, it will scroll up.

Either stay away from the right side of the touchpad or turn virtual scrolling off in the control panel.

Thank you so much ecmasonjr for your help. If you lived close to me I'd buy you a free lunch!

Everything is OK now, the only thing I haven't been able to do is find in the Control Panel where you can turn off the virtual scanning. But now that I know to stay away from the right side of the touchpad, all is fine.

Sorry to say that once again this points out the lack of support we receive from the Acer Technical Support people. 3 calls to them resulted in telling me that I have "a problem." The first guy had me re-install the drivers for the touchpad. The 2nd guy had me do a system restore. I offered to email them the link to the picture I took of the grey swirl, but this feel on deaf ears. They then offered to have me send the netbook back to them. SAD!

I'm not quite sure what operating system you have. In XP it's START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>MOUSE

On the panel that pops up select the DEVICE SETTINGS tab.
On that tab click on the SETTINGS button.
The fourth option from the top is Virtual Scrolling.
Click on that and from there you can disable the vertical, horizontal and ciralmotion (circular) scrolling so you'll have your whole touchpad to use.
