Has anyone used the solderless touch screen kit sold by "VisualTouchWorld" on eBay?

I recently got their kit and open my AAO150-1777 to install it. I found that the USB cable that goes from the microphone on the left side to the USB hub was half as long as I needed. The right side cables all appear to be the right length. Without this cable being the right length I either install without the microphone or need a difference cable.

Can anyone tell me if they has a similar problem? As well can someone tell me the proper length of the "left side" cable?

Am I right in thinking the Hoda Technology solderless touch screen kit as sold by Fidohub is the one to have in terms of ease of fitting and reliability?

I got the kit on Friday. Did the install in about 2 and a half hours. In order to get the left side cable to work, I had to strip off the black tape from the wires that lead from the monitor connector to the microphone and webcam cables. I then rerouted the webcam cable through the left hinge and into the space where the left hinge screws down to the bottom of the case. By stripping off the black tape, I was able to have enough room to route all the wires.

The details were actually in the install pdf that they sent me via email. It was on page 5. I can post a link to the PDF if you want.

If I do this install again, I think I will be using the CN11 solder points and forget about disconnecting the web and mic cables and rerouting them. That would reduce the amount of cable routing and failure points for the touch screen. I am using CN11 as a connector for a bluetooth dongle that I hard wired into place, but I may mod the whole thing to connect to the USB hub.

I got a great deal on this touch screen. It does work very well but it gives the screen a cloudy, milky like look when the power is off. It is not so visible when the screen is on but visually it is not as good as the original screen.

    Good luck on your mod.

    Hi,
I have been thinking about installing a touchscreen in my AOA150. I have been looking on ebay and saw that there are two type, a regular touchscreen and a film to film. I was wondering what is the deiffernce between the two and which one would be better to use.

    Thanks

I was all set to get a touch-screen for my A150 when somebody went and stole it.

Anyway - I've since picked up a 531, whiich I'm very pleased with, and I was just wondering whether anybody has attempted to touchscreen-mod this? It seems a bit slimmer than the old unit, so I'm not sure whether there's enough room for all the gubbins.

Searching around, and the only reference I've found is somebody else asking the same question.

It would be ideal if it could, since it'll upgrade to 2gb RAM out the box, and I reckon you could get a small bluetooth dongle in the wireless compartment (if a USB lead could be supplied from a touchscreen hub).

Thanks in advance guys. I'll shut up now :)

I finally decided to check out the kit I bought from DealExtreme 3 months ago and the touch panel has the ribbon in the middle! Anyone get one of these and successfully install it in a AOA150? (SKU 15611)

I guess DealExtreme completely lacks in consistency with these things.

So just how well does the touchscreen work with the new capabilities of Windows 7?

I'm thinking about it, but not sold on the idea yet, and if it doesnt work well, I'm not gonna bother.

Hey guys! If anyone was wondering, this touchscreen mod does not work with the aspire slim AOD250 models. My girlfriend bought me one for christmas and after opening it up, could not find the individual mic and camera connectors. Ah good times. Anyways, I'm going to sell it as I believe the components are still good on ebay for like $40.

Side note: I think my girlfriend was more sad than I was.. :(

Just put in the Film-to-Film version off of ebay that came with the usb hub/ts controller in one. Same issue as the person above with the webcam wire being too difficult to mess with. Was afraid I would break the wire and lose the cam or mic, or at worst case the lcd! Since I had previously wired in on CN11 for my previous TS that was broke when I got it (stupid craigslist,) I just wired the new one to those wires and put the wires through the right side hinge.

Not because this is the film-to-film version means that its much more durable when handling, it bends just like they show in the pictures on ebay. However it did place the TS wires very close to the hinge so I routed the flat cable down and under the LCD and up and to the right to come out just above the hinge screw. I then connected the cable there and simply ran it down the hinge and into the empty port on the back. I then used the "extra" cable they sent (it was supposed to be the webcam line) to wire in a wireless mouse mini dongle. Now i've got one extra to cable to use for GPS or bluetooth, can't figure out which I want to do!

Visually you can tell its there when you have it off or on battery power with the lower level brightness. At full brightness it seems to be less intrusive but you can still see it on large areas of solid color.

On another topic, if you are looking at the 12cell batteries off ebay they are excellent! 9hrs at full charge with wireless running. May be less now that touchscreen is in but haven't noticed much of a drop.

    hello all,
after reading all these posts about how great the touchscreen mod is, i decided to go ahead and do it. unfortunately, after getting everything all connected and powering the machine up, the new hardware wasn't being detected (no "windows found new hardware" window and the software that came with it wasn't detecting it either). my webcam also wasn't being detected at all, as if it had disappeared. this made me think that it might be a faulty unit so decided to uninstall it.

i uninstall it and now whenever i try to use my webcam, i get either a message that says that the webcam should be connected to a hi-speed usb 2.0 port (and the webcam doesn't work), or it just doesn't work at all (although now it is listed in the device manager and under "devices and printers" in the control panel). i also can hear the sound that plays when plugging in a USB device before it gives me the message about not being connected to a hi-speed usb port. i've tried a few things...

    1) check to make sure wiring harness to webcam is secure
    2) delete the webcam driver and USB drivers from device manager
    3) reinstall windows!

and none of the above worked. i'm running windows 7. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Nice advertisement ;) because the offering does *not* include a controller or cables. So do not buy this item if you don´t have your own cables or a controller.

I have obtained the following touch screen from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 3D1&_rdc=1
Installation was easy (except fiddeling the cables under the hinge) and the cables are long enough. The only caveat is the connection from the controller board to the webcam. Because the cable shipped with the touchscreen does not really fit to the 5 port connector of the webcam, connection was only possible after searching the web for a pin layout of the webcam connector.

The touch screen works well with Windows 7 (driver from gigabyte.com)

    Hi there!

I appear to have a similar problem as blanto a few posts above. I purchased the Visual Touch World-Touchscreen from ebay and installed it (to my A110L). After fiddling around with it for hours, I got it to work (running Fedora I had trouble to find the correct drivers - the mouse cursor would keep on jumping to the upper left corner).

Now after I got it setup correctly, I reassembled/closed the netbook - and after a reboot the touchscreen wouldnt work at all! Even worse the webcam stopped working as well (to be honest, I didnt check whether it worked before). Typing lsusb to the terminal gives me this:

    Code:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

I already googled and the correct output with webcam only should have something like Bus 001 Device 002 on top... which means the webcam is not detected at all =( lspci gives me this:

    Code:
    ...
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02)
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02)
00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02)
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02)
    ...

I also remember that lsusb used to discover the touchscreen as well as the free ports on the controller. I thought I might have damaged the cable connecting motherboard to webcam (which is being used to connect the USB controller), so I purchased another one (the whole display cable), but the problem persists.

Before I give up on the matter, I was hoping that maybe one of you guys knew what the source of the problem could be.. did I maybe damage the motherboard when reassembling the machine? I also found a thread at ubuntuforums where someone had the same lsusb output but never fixed the problem, so I was hoping it might be software related.

Please excuse this long post ;-) Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi,

I just installed my touch kit, can somebody guide me to the setting that will enable page gliding/scrolling by running my stylus or finger up and down on the web page or in the explorer window.

When i am trying to move the stylus/finger on the webpage a block of text is getting selected/highlighted.

Any help to enable gliding/scrolling will be most appreciated.

    thanks in advance.
