OK, a bit of a "sit-rep" before I head off to bed for the evening...

    - The Touch-Panel Controller is Installed successfully and is being seen by Windows
    - The Touch-Panel is mounted onto the screen and the film-cable has been run

Also, by doing things the way I have, we won't lose any USB Ports available to us - so that's a bonus ;)

So, what's left to do is:

    - Link the Touch-Screen to the Controller
    - Reassemble the unit
    - Install Drivers
    - Calibrate

At the moment, everything is going really well and hopefully by tomorrow evening i'll have the tutorial up and posted in the Guides section...

    Cheers,
    Andy, aka. LUFCfan :)

    Hi adipradana,
I bought my kit on eBay from a seller called "e_shophk" - and as far as I can tell, it's the same kit sold as is seen on the JKK Mobile site fitted to an ASUS EEE 901. It looks nicely made, fits perfectly and as I say, I can't believe how quickly it turned up! The last thing I got which came from China took nearly 20 working days to appear, and this took just 4 to get to the UK. He ships worldwide too so it won't matter where you are located. I'm really happy with the service I received anyway, so when I get the tutorial up and posted later on tonight (hopefully) then i'll put a link through directly to his eBay shop. If you want to find his stuff in the mean time, just search for e_shophk in the eBay advanced search (under see items by seller).

There is a driver download for the panel for Linux on the page linked below, so I presume it would work under Linpus - but not having used Linux before, I wouldn't know how you'd go about installing the drivers on your system. Anyway, the link is:
    http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eg/drivers.htm

P.S. When I get the tutorial up in the guides section, i'll shove a link in this post which will take you directly to the appropriate page. I'll get on with the install again now, so hopefully by tonight you should all have what you've been waiting for. :)

    Hope that helps,
    Andy, aka. LUFCfan :)

Is it just me or has the price of these kits gone up by 75% recently? When I first looked at them they were around the £20 mark, now ~£35. The idea of a touchscreen on my One, especially for MythTV is very attractive, but paying £15 extra just because of increased interest seems steep.

Edit: Ok, might just be me then - looking at old completed auctions on Ebay they weren't any cheaper at the start of the month. Still £35 isn't nearly as enticing as a price closer to £20 :(

Just a quick update... The install is now finished and I must say that I'm impressed! Everything works great, the drivers installed in XP no problem and everything looks good! I'm starting to write-up now, so in a few hours we should be good to go...

    Cheers,
    Andy, aka. LUFCfan :)

I have also done this mod, with pretty much the same method you used... except I mounted the controller in the expansion bay under the One.

One question about using the touchscreen... I find it works fine after a reboot, but after a few minutes using it, it seems to lose quite a bit of precision, to the point where it thinks I clicked 1/4" below the actual area that I clicked... to the point where I can't reach the "X" to close my windows.

    Have you experience this too?

    Hi mate,
Personally, I can't say I have experienced any problem of this nature - although I have heard of it in the EEEPc Community.

The general concensus seems to be that there is tension on the ribbon / controller harness which pulls ever so slightly on the panel, causing the panel to lose accuracy over short periods of time.

The only other reason I can think of is that you've got some interference on the USB Lines of the controller which are affecting the accuracy of the input from the panel to the controller - possibly from the Power / Earth lines, or BGAs in the region of your wires.

    Hope that helps...

Any chance you could point me to these posts on the eeepc forums?

One thing I though about overnight, is it possible it's the screen warming up that somehow changes the properties of the touch screen part? I'll try waiting 15 minutes before I calibrate it. But I guess then the problem will be that it will not be accurate right at startup.

I might try moving the controller on top of the hard drive like you did and see if it fixes anything. One thing I'm not comfortable about is running the ribbon cable through the hinge like you did. Do you think it will survive the opening closing of the lid with time?

Right now, i'm at the point of just removing everything, since once you've gotten past the cool factor, it's pretty useless if I have to recalibrate it all the time. More to come.

Awesome post nonetheless. I keep meaning to do things like that when I dismantle something new, but I'm just too lazy and end up not taking any pictures, only to get to the end and say "I should have documented all that". Glad to see some of us have better discipline!

 Well, your questions are very interesting, and could help a lot... could you take some pictures of your supposed mistakes? It could be nice to post then in the Lufcfan/Andy "how to"

    Hello LUFCfan,

I've ordered my touchscreen two days ago. While I wait for its arrival I've a litte question:

Some installation guides for the eeepc recommend to remove the metal frame around the display and place the touch panel directly on the front glass. Do you rembember if this is possible with the aao as well? The additional support should reduce the risk of cracking the touch panel. I think the space between the display glass and the backside of the touch panel is a big cracking hazard while using the panel.

BTW: Thank you for all your effort and the great modding guide. :D

    Hi SH0DAN,
I don't think that the metal frame around the AAO Screen is removable to be honest, but I didn't really look to see whether it was.

To be honest, the surround is so thin I doubt it'd make much difference leaving it on or removing it.

    Hope that helps...
