It is removeable, I have just gone through dismantling my LCD to see if I can reclaim some thickness. I think the problem i'm having is caused by the bezel pressing against the touchscreen since everything works well without the bezel.

As stated, the metal frame around the LCD it's so thin that it's not really worth doing. It removes a lot of stiffness in the LCD, and doesn't really add anything useful (maybe the EEE is a different story).

For now I have removed my touchscreen, since there is no way I can make it behave properly.

It'll be interesting to know what is your experience once you receive your touchscreen. Let us know.

First of all, thank you for all the information.

    My plan is as follows:
I'm putting the controler board into the empty slot for the 3G modem. The D+, D- and GND of the mini PCIe slot are used for the controller connection. 5V+ is drawn of one of the USB ports (I'll mark it with a litte red line below the port). For the controller to touchscreen cable I'll use a shielded 4 wire cable to avoid interferences from the backlight and panel electronics. I'll try to remove the metal frame around the panel and put the touch screen directly on the panel (alternatively I'll put a thin sheet of clear plastic below the touchscreen) to avoid any cracking hazard. If it is posslible to put the metal frame on the panel and the touchscreen this would be grate beacouse the frame would act as a spacer for the bezel.

I'll have to measure the 3G slot to see if the touch controler will fit. I've not taken a look at the LCD panel because I don't want to disassemble my AAO a second time (the risk of braking something, you know...).

These are my thoughs so far. Any suggestions :?

He only claims solderless for the Eee PC 900 series, most of the other touchscreens sold are also solderless for the Eee but the AA1 lacks the connectors or at least the same connectors that the Eee has. If anyone produces a solderless touchscreen solution which works with the AA1 then it will have to be designed with the AA1 in mind.

Cool, but has anyone tried this guys screens? I would be interested to see if they are superior to the ones that have been cracking. eeeforum seems to not have the answer yet. Plus based off the pictures provided would it be possible to install it the same way as shown in the tutorial here???

i would be very interested to know. Thanks!!

I broke my first touchscreen by stupidity (fliped it off the table  ). Now I'm waiting for my replacement. One additional Question: Has anyone tried to mill down the bezel by 0.5 mm to get more clearance for the touch panel?

Regarding the metal frame: After looking at it and measureing its thickness I agree with LUFCfan that removing the metal frame does not get any noticible cleance.

    Hello all,

my replacement touchscreen arrived today and I instantly connected it to the controller . Sadly, the controller thinks that my TS is always touched (sound and lit gree LED). I checked the wiring twice, but it was correct. :| Then I got my multimeter and measured the resistance between the top and the bottom layer of the TS. The resistence is 600 ohms - 2k when pressed and 10 k wen not pressed. The 10 k seem not enough to me. I thought that an unpressed TS should have a resistance of more than 100k between its layers.

Is my touchscreen dead on arrival or am I doing something wrong?
Can anyone help with a solution or suggestion?

Did anyone try the touchscreens with Linux? I heard there are some Linux drivers, but does it work fine on Linpus?

Are you guys using double sided tape to secure your TS to the TFT? I've read that some use kapton tape to reduce the extra space the double sided tape makes.

Got the touch screen display from DealExtreme, but of course it was cracked.
Trying to get a replacement, but it looks like that is not going to happend anytime soon. Will probably think twice about doing bussiness there again....

Doh, I ordered one from Deal Extreme earlier this week. Will let you know if mine is cracked too. Hmm, I better make an unboxing video just in case (not that it would really help or anything).

Those TS kits from DealExtreme look like the ribbon cable is pretty thick. Not sure if u can route that easily inside the right hinge. Of course u can always run the 4 cables thru the hinge and do your connection inside the bezel area.

    rgarjr,

Did you follow this guide? viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1927
I have been doing Aspire TS mod research for a long time. Many people reported they have problems on their mods(cracks, controller problem, alignment of TS etc).

    1. Does the TS screen fit perfectly on Aspire one?
    2. Do you have alignment problem?
    3. Anything we need to know during the TS installation?
    4. Did you order this TS? http://cgi.ebay.com/8-9-SOLDERLESS-Eee- ... 911.c0.m14
    Thanks.

    1. Yes the touch screen panel fits really good on the A1.
    2. I have not had any alignment, calibration issues yet.
    3. Just make sure you route your ribbon cable neatly on the hinge since it will be moving when you open and close your monitor.
    4. I ordered the 8.9 one, but the one you have to solder, not the solderless one.

A lot of guys have had their TS's cracked on the eeeuser.com forum, but I think that's because of the way their eee computer is designed. Don't think we have to worry about that on the A1.

That's interesting, but getting rid of the keyboard.. I am not sure it is such a good idea.

Got a final email from DealExtreme on the cracked touch screen digitizer i received cracked; "- Special warranty: this is a DIY product and is sold by DX as is. If return/replacement is required, customers will need to cover shipping fees both ways" US$60 out the window for me :(

I guess customer support and porly wrapped items are one of the reason for their low prices....
