Here's a video of my touchscreen mod to get a sense of how it works with everyday tasks:


I purchased mine at DealExtreme and luckily it didn't crack in the bubble wrap package.

 

I'm not sure this info has been reported before but I found something interesting for those who had some problems with TS controller:

If your product gets damaged within 30 days of delivery, please check and find out the cheapest way to mail the item back to our Hong Kong Defective Products Drop Off Box. If it is less than $___(less than 30% of the item price), please go ahead and return it to address below, and take a picture of the proof of shipment (receipt, certificate of posting, tracking number stub, etc) after you have shipped it. We will arranged the replacement and reimbursement for your return postage after the package is received and processed.

PS: Please use the cheapest way to ship the item(s) back. Courier services such as EMS, UPS, Fedex, TNT, DHL etc are NOT eligible for return shipping cost reimbursements

But if the product turns out to be defective after 30 days from delivery, please notice that the return shipping costs (both ways) will be the sole responsibility of you. If I do close the paypal dispute, there won`t be no other option for me to re-open the dispute again in case something else is going bad.

Ain`t this a strange request?

 

It is. In that case I would suggest report this case to PayPAL itself... That's only one way to have a witness and independent judge...

How this is that Touch screen?
Is sanding down of the display needed ?
To make up some clearance ?

I didn't sand down underneath the black plastic bezel, however I probably will end up doing it because there's a slight bulge. (I bought the screen from DealExtreme if you're wondering about the thickness)

I have also ordered my touchscreen through DealExtreme, and it's taking a VERY long time to get here. So far, it's been two weeks.

As a result, I've looked at this site:

They have a lot of different sizes, and their prices are pretty reasonable.

Has anyone else dealt with them?

hi all,roughly how long does the whole process take to complete and is the tutorial on here ideal for the dealextreme touchscreen?

1 hour max and tutorial is in this topic already - there is no difference between dealextreme and anything else...

I've seen that 30 gauge wire is suggested but I'm having issues sourcing 30 gauge locally. I can get 26 guage. Anyone know a good source for wire, kapton tape and 2 sided tape online? I assume 30 gauage was suggested because the 5 volts was comming from a surface mount pad. I plan on using the extra USB pads, do these give me a little room? I have not cracked my AAO open yet so I do not know, I'm waiting for my hub, bluetooth and panel to arrive and then I will install everything (including memory) at once.

I actually ended up stripping the wire from the USB cord in the touchscreen kit instead of using my 30AWG wire:

 

well, after lots of careful work, I replaced the connectors with the wire soldered directly to the board and plugged it in one more time to test before I soldered the usb to the acer. DAMN, the board is fried, guess my iron was too hot, I used a 30W but I was quick with it and thought it wouldn't be a problem. Now I have a dead controller. Does anyone possibly have the controller from a kit with a broken screen that will sell me just the controller?

 

Thanks for your tip on the iron wattage. I too have a 30 watt and thought I would be quick with it. Guess I'll go out and buy a 10-15 watter.

what is the white wire hooked up to ? Is that a 5v point ???
