I'm getting a case for the one made at work. Out of 1.6mm thick stainless steel. :D

Its going to be a two part case and i'm going to line the inside with something to cushion the one from impacts. I'm thinking of using some pc sound proofing material as the cusioning, because its cheap and its self adhesive on one side, don't know what i'm going to use to hold the two parts of the case together yet. Possibly some small straps.or velcro straps.

Now for some fancy isometric cad stuff

Hopefully you'll get the idea. The bottom case is 5mm bigger than the one in all three directions. This should make the one a good fit once the padding is added, the top case is another 5mm bigger than the bottom case and it overlaps the bottom case sides by 1/2.

I'm doing the case this way as i need a fairly resiliant case for the type of holidays i go on. 3 weeks rattling around in a truck in the deserts of jordan and egypt ought to be a good test for the one and the case.

Hopefully i'll have the case in hand by next week. I'll put some pictures up when i do. I'll also put up some cad drawings for anyone interested. I'd do it now but it's best to make sure it'll work first :D

Can you tell how heavy this "case" can be?? 1.6mm is really thick stuff...

    1.6mm thick, nah :D
I did consider going thinner, but i wanted to keep some ridgidity and strength in the case, anyhthing thinner than 1.6 will dint really easily. I reckon the case will come in between 1.5 - 3kg. I'm not bothered by the weight, I'm more concerend with protecting the one from physical damage, i'll be the first to admit a soft case is a much better and lighter solution, but its not the right solution for me. The only other viable option was the pelican 1080cc case, but this way is cheaper

Btw the thickest stainless steel we use at work is 15mm, the same area as the 1.6mm stuff weighs around 11kg

I let you know the final weight :D

It's done :D Weighs in at 3kg including the one. Lined it with some protective foam and it fits really well.

Its a tight fit in the case with the foam, but that's what i wanted. I've put a thin piece of material in there that wraps around the one to make it easier to pull out. Just got a little cleanup to do on the outside to get rid of the folding marks and it's finished.

Not afraid to chuck the whole thing in the topbox on the bike now

Really nice piece of metal work. My only concern would be securing the lid. All the padding in the world won't do jack if there is nothing to hold it all in place. Good job overall.

I guess I don't have any concern then...except for maybe the power brick. Oh well, the hardware is what needs protecting right?
