    Hi!

I'm very satisfied with my AAO150Xp. The only thing that bothered me was the long boot and especially shutdown time. I seemed to remember a little app called TuneXp that was very effective for speeding up boot time. After installation on my AAO I have shortened boot time with half the earlier time and shutdown time even more. Here's the link

    http://www.download.com/TuneXP/3000-208 ... d=10290928

    It's free

Read trough the instructions for file system and memory and I can guarantee you'll be surprised. Documentation found under "Help".

Does it disable the programs on start up to boost up the start up time ? If so, there is no point in installing that because you can do it manually, without installing any software. :)

    Hi!

No it doesn't. From what I understand from the docs it reorganizes the boot files (really don't know what that means). This app does alot of things that probably can be done manually but it comes very handy with this interface.

    Cheers man.
From what I read there, it not only makes your computer faster to boot, but there are more things it can do.
I didn't read through all of it.

I've used this program on every windows machine I've built since I found it like 2 years ago. As far as I'm concerned it's a must on a new windows install.

google the tweaks within this app one by one, many if not most are bogus tweaks that have been debunked ages ago... clearing prefetch folders, IRQ8Priority, etc. Strangely enough, the same site to give a decent review to tunexp later reported on this themselves: http://tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks11.htm If only they had taken the time to go back and ammend the review.

There's also a lot of mis-represented info, such as "faster shutdown". All that does is shutdown apps that apps that windows thinks are hung/frozen faster, but this can also be apps that are waiting for a user response, sometimes a very important response like "Do you wish to save this file?" . With the shutdown tweak, that app would just be closed quickly with no chance to save. :?

The only thing i see of possible worth is the "ultra fast boot" which shaves a second or two off, but since i only reboot about once every 2-3 weeks it's not really an issue.

Well since this was the reason I installed progg in the first place I'm very satisfied. I had shutdown time for over 1 minute and it's now shortened to 10/15 sec. So I think it's fare to say that it's a "faster shutdown". Can't really see how that could be mis represented info. I always have saved my files before shutting down so that's not an issue.

It's misrepresented because it doesn't speedup the shutdown process per se. As i mentioned, it simply rapidly kills processes that don't respond to close command. If TuneXP speeds up your shutdown process, then this means you had applications that are not gracefully closing by themselves and THAT is the issue that needs to addressed. Forcefully killing a process every time it gets hung up does nothing to address or investigate why it is not responding and can result in corrupted data. You wouldn't accept holding the power button as a faster means of shutdown (i hope!) and you shouldn't accept killing stalled processes either. A machine that is properly working will not have a faster shutdown with TuneXP because the applications will properly shutdown by themselves.

I'm not trying to say that properly fixing shutdown problems is easier than using TuneXP, i'm try trying to show that TuneXP is not the proper way to fix them
