Hi, I'm trying to get my Acer Aspire One running 8.10 using as little power as possible. My main goal is to have as few modules and services running, while still being able to play movies in VLC from one of the card readers. Wifi, USB and other devices will not be needed. My experience with Linux isn't all that great, although I'm picking up a lot of tips & tricks reading these forums. I've already applied most of the tweaks mentioned in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne110L, as well as some other tricks I've found. By disabling networking, reducing brightness and slashing a few modules(like ehci_hcd, uhci_hcd etc.) I've managed to get an IDLE load of about 7.5W-8.0W, and about 9.5W running VLC. All values obtained from Powertop. Any thoughts on how to improve this, which modules/services to disable, or am I about to hit a brick wall? A little quirk I'm curious about. Examining the Power History graph in Gnome Power Manager shows a slight increase in power usage over time. I typically get a steady rise from 9W to 10-11W over a period of 3-4 hours. Any explanation to this? Attaching print outs of loaded modules, service and running processes. Have you seen this: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5875&start=10#p43164 What kind of battery life do you get? And which battery do you have? (3 cell (2200 or 2400) or 6 cell)
Seen it and applied it.. Got the 6-cell battery and getting 6-6.5 hours running VLC.. Might be I've reached it's max potential, but would be nice to have confirmation..
There are few odd services running there: Cups - Do you need to connect a printer? Portmap - I think this is used for NFS, which you probably aren't using. Winbind - Is this the Windows DNS server look alike?
