EDIT: I figured it out with help... if anyone is interested, let me know.

So I've got a 3G AA1 now. Can't get the AT&T 3G going. See a lot of euro help, what is nobody from the USA using a 3G AA1 in Linux? Thanks ahead of time & yes, I searched 1st so if I missed something, SORRY!

Trying to follow the instructions here: http://sierrawireless.custhelp.com/app/ ... l/a_id/500

UPDATE: kppp Directions above tell you, "configure", then "new". All attempt to communicate with the modem don't work. I ran through EVERY setting.

    pppd instructions:
    root@AcerAspireOne:/etc/ppp/peers# pppd call gsm
pppd: In file /etc/ppp/peers/gsm: unrecognized option '/dev/ttyUSB0'

I only have Windows 3G, but you have cycled the wifi switch to turn the 3G card on and off, Yes?

I've been hassling with the Qualcomm 9212 internal 3G modem while using Ubuntu since April '09.
I have the AA1 ZG5 (1GB, 160GB hdd) that comes pre-loaded with WinXP, & the first thing I did was install UNR 9.04, but was dismayed to discover the Qualcomm modem was unrecognized by Ubuntu.
I tried all sorts of suggestions, to no avail. I gave up for awhile, until I bought a magazine called "Linux Identity" which contained DVD's of a few flavors of Ubuntu, & subsequently installed Xubuntu after successfully connecting via my tethered mobile, which had previously eluded me in all other Ubuntu installations...
At least I can follow tutorials more easily with web connectivity in Xubuntu. The Windoze shuffle is a real pain...

The closest I've been to getting the internal modem working in linux is with kuki: http://kuki.me/ but still have been unable to connect via the built in 3G modem...
I haven't tried the latest release yet, but I do believe kuki linux is worth a try.
    ...
Currently using Xubuntu (jaunty) tethered to my mobile on at&t.
Am quite pleased with my current Xubuntu installation, but am anxiously awaiting some resolution to the Qualcomm 9212 GOBI chipset 3G internal modem under *buntu issue.
