i m testing, and first impressions are really good

boots fast with ext4, 35 seconds to gdm.

can change to netbook interface or clasic interface with one click

and info to aspireone wiki ubuntu
    To get wifi work:

    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
    and add the line:
    from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

Installing now. I have a question. When the final release is out can I just update or will I need to reinstall the newer version?

What model do you have? I have the 110l 8gb ssd 512mb ram model and boot times are far from being impressive. Still more than a minute to desktop. With Ubuntu 9.04 my wifi isn't automatically detected anymore. In fact, I couldn't even connect through a wired connection. Big disappointment. I read an article about Mark Shuttleworth (Ubuntu founder) saying that the new release would cater more to netbooks and be faster. I experienced the opposite. The system is sloooow, sluggish. Installed on ssd with ext4, then ext2. No dice. I had (and still have) high hopes for the final release of 9.04, but so far nothing looks like it's going to revolutionize anything for the aao experience if you have the ssd model. What a bummer. But hey, let's see what the final release has to offer. Here's to hoping. :)

I have the AAO with 8GB SSD, 512MB RAM, and don't have the same problems you are seeing. It boots quite fast, and is very responsive. I'm using ext4, by the way. I did have to blacklist the acer_wmi module in order to get wireless working, but this is outlined on the Ubuntu page for the AAO. The only major issue I'm having is the edge scrolling on the touchpad doesn't work properly.

Does wireless networking work out of the box? Does wired networking work? 'Cuz I haven't been able to get wireless working at all under 8.10, and wired is broken under kernal 2.6.27-11. I'm about ready to nuke it and try Linpus.

Then i will recommend another Ubuntu distro, that works right out of the box:
    http://crunchbanglinux.org

If you add Sickboy's kernel it is perfect for the AAO.

    and then write
after that restart and wifi works!

..During apt-upgrade system crash, and when restarts xserver failed, reinstalling...

Aye, matey! That be the one, and it's working great. Everything I've tried works out of the box, though I haven't tried everything in 30 minutes! The one thing I really want is wpa enterprise, but I can't check that out 'til I get to work tomorrow. :D

I tried CrunchBang this weekend and it definitely performs the best out of any version of Ubuntu that i've tried so far. That being said, my card readers still don't work, even after making the modifications to get them working and adding sickboy's kernel.

jaunty is indeed working nicelyon the AAO.

    - wifi: rmmod acer_wmi (add to blacklist to make it permanent)
    - fan noise: compile acerhdf

    Quick boot, hibernate/suspend works.

    Grtz
