Guys, be careful of ext4: they are having problems with it, which they *think* will be solved by the time official 9.04 is released.
I hear the plan is not to make ext4 default for 9.04 just in case.

WiFi and Ethernet. On the 110L, I had to blacklist acer_wmi. Do this by editing the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
and adding "blacklist acer_wmi" at the end. Do not use the quotation marks.

If the Ethernet cable is plugged in when you boot, it disables WiFi. Unplug the cable and it stays disabled. however, you
can click to enable it IF the cable is unplugged. I did not try disabling ethernet first to see what would happen. I use mine
mostly wi-fi at the local cafe, but at home I have the option of ethernet or wi-fi.

If you use the UNR version, and "Switch Desktops", you just get the brown wallpaper after a reboot, as a poster above said. There is no
way to fix that I could find, and believe me, I looked thru the various files until I was blue in the face. I have seen this happen
in 8.10 unr as well. However, for some people, it works fine. I am guessing a conflict of some kind, or a tweak that cripples
    the UNR desktop.

If some kind soul was to post a command line fix for this, it would be great. Because, of course, I can get the command line
    (non windowed) with CTL-ALT-F1.

It seems that X starts, loads the wallpaper etc., but the panels do not load. Panels being the top and bottom bars that have the
    menus, icons, clock etc.

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 is ready for test...

I only did the wifi tweak (blacklist acer_wmi), the rest works out of the box. The only bug I noticed on Skype is the sound only comes out from one speaker. Does anyone know how to fix this? Aside from this, I still can't get the wifi led to work (but this is just a minor issue).

Finally, UNR 9.04 can truly replace the Acer's custom linux, just in time before Acer completely gets rid of it. This could be a start a wave of linux fans and people that had enough of MS to shift to Ubuntu.

I dont know how to fix the bug but i worked out how to get back normal UNR.
    ctrl-alt-f1 to change to terminal.
Log in as root or another user which is not in the x session and then su or sudo
    /etc/init.d/gdm stop
ctrl-alt-f1 if it takes you away from the previous terminal to get back
then i deleted the gnome config files. i had just installed and had no settings a cared about so just did a
    rm -rf /home/USERNAME/.*

then either reboot or restart gdm

There is also a simpler solution.

Right click on the backgrond and click on "create launcher" . In commdn enter gnome-terminal, the rest is not important.
Then double click the gnome-terminal icon and in terminal type gnome-panel.
After that you can change the view if you wish and use the distro normally.

    Hope it helps

I installed UNR 9.04 beta yesterday. Updated everything using ethernet connection. Everything worked out of the box, i didn't need to blacklist no module. Just replaced network-manager with wicd (its in the repos now).

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 is ready for test...

I want to ditch Micro$oft once and for all. I am a real newbie. I will first migrate on my AAO (150) and then on my desktop.

But I don't want to fiddle with Linux. Just install apps and enjoy...

Should I try UNR 9.04? How do I get non-free codecs, flash, and java working?

    Thanks.

You may want to wait until the official 9.04NR is launched, in that way proper documentation and support will be available for AAO users. But as for now, the forums are one of the best sources for support. CLI tweaks are inevitable. :)

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 is ready for test...

Installed UNR 9.04 and almost everything worked right away.

Wifi - Using the Ath5k driver. Madwifi drivers wouldn't work for me at all. A hack got the wifi LED working too.

Fan Control - A hack got the fan control working.

SD drives - A hack got the SD drive hot swap working.

Suspend/Resume - Don't trust it so I turned it off. It did mess up my SD cards a couple times.

Then did all the standard tweaks: changed the SSD to ext2, moved logs to tmpfs, set noatime...more stuff than i can remember, actually :)

If anyone wants me to post my scripts, config files, etc, let me know.

    Cheers,
    Fester

    Hi, Fester

    PLEASE post your hacks.

Looks like you've solved the problems with UNR that I've spent many fruitless hours working on...

    Thanks

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 is ready for test...

    HI everyone,

out of curiousity. Ive downloaded the latest netbook remix installer. I'm proud to say that the wifi tweak is no longer needed. there are still some installer bugs that has already been identified but to yet corrected. I can choose ext 4 of ext2 easily using manual partition. After installation, there was around 270+ updates (at this time I'm still using ethernet) - after all updates has been completed and a full reboot wifi networks were detected - NO NEED FOR MADWIFI. I have re-installed my slingplayer/wine, skype (only left speaker working for chat - I appreciate if anyone can share how to fix this) web cam and voice works without tweaks. wifi led still does not work out of the box needs cli tweak.

It's not only that the panels disappear: maximus is acting weird as well.. You could try to reinstall the packages that came with ubuntu-netbook-remix.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall put-package-name
Unfortunately I only took a screenshot of the packages, so cannot copy-paste..

i can say it is quite comparable to the acer-custom linpus lite.. Please take note that 9.04 is still in beta. thera are tonnes of fixes ang other changes on a daily basis. Its really hard to tell by following to thread if a certain issues has been resolved by ubuntu developers, unless you are really involved in testing each issue and following up each of them.
