Received my new Acer Aspire One 160G yesterday and I am pretty happy with it, although today I was enjoying a You Tube when halfway through the screen went blank, although the audio continued to work. After trying to ESC several time unsucessfully, I just waited till the end of the clip. Then I noticed McAfee was working on downloading and installing something the whole time, which is probably why the screen went blank. Then my Acer slowed to a crawl and wouldn't play any You Tubes at all, until I finally agreed to let McAfee re boot and finish the installation. Then everything was fine for a while. Now I am getting intermittent slowing (broadband connection), regardless of whether I am plugged into the network or wireless. I have read about people dumping the McAfee and going with something less resource hogging. Any suggestions? Do you think McAfee is the problem? What else should I dump?

    Thanks...Brian

I just got mine today and the first thing i realized i needed to do was the update to the wireless drivers. Have you done that yet?

No, I didn't think of that. I hope I can figure out how to do that.

McAfee is always first OFF any pc I buy. While not advertising, I run AVG free, it's light , doesnt overload the OS and has never failed to protect me.
But I'm NOT a big 'download all attachments' kind of guy.
Might give that a try, I've always found other antivirals to be way too top heavy.

Same AVG anti virus-- free, and run it manually.

Thanks pcbguy, I updated both the wireless driver as well as the LAN driver. Also dumped the McAfee and got AVG. So far so good. My next move will be to import my 42G iTunes library.

Not being a real smart PC guy, do you think a 42G iTunes library is too much for the Acer? It shouldn't have any effect on the OS unless it is open, right?

Size of your library does not affect your OS, since you cannot open all those songs all at the same time, hehehe. OS will only slow down once your drive gets crowded. Always have at least 10gb free at least.

Thanks for that info. By the way, after dumping McAfee and updating drivers I spent two hours on the net last night and this baby was flying. Very happy with this purchase. I got it mainly for travel in Mexico, and for easy portability of my music.
