I can't seem to get the update function to work, but everything else is peachy.

Is anybody else having this problem? Is Acers server down?

Strange - when I try to update it goes "getting data from server" for a long long time - then it gives an error message - something like "could not get update list"

I'm having the same problem here. "Getting data from server", no action on the internet connection, then after a long time I get "could not retrieve update list" or something.

Hi everyone! I don't think it's Acer's server problem. I had the same problem and I enabled the advanced desktop options (typing xfce-setting-show in terminal) and tried updating with System - Software Updater (or just type pup in terminal). After some time, the following error appears:

    notification-daemon-xfce conflicts with notify-daemon
Missing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.16 is needed by package yelp

Even if I uncheck package yelp it stills more and more errors... :(

Somebody already asked for this in a Linux forum here:

    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... es-659996/

    But to no avail.

If anybody can help us... pleeeease! :)

    Thank you!

    Try this:

    http://update.linpus.com/ACER/AspireOne/v1.01.6/

Download the file online-updater080730.sh, open a terminal and cd to the directory that file is stored in.

    login as root (su) and

    chmod +x online-updater080730.sh

from here just run the updater script ./online-updater080730.sh

The last part of the puzzle is to just run live update.

Fixed the issue for me anyway

    Regards.

Thank you, though it didn't work for me. When I execute those shells I get this error:

    audit_log_user_command(): Connection refused

I've read in a Spanish forum that the repository folder might be corrupted in the acer recovery cd, which might cause this failure... I hope someone sorts this out.

Ok, I've run 'pup' in terminal, which resulted in a huge list of available updates, clicking 'install' gave me the error message same as above. So I unselected every available update, (got 'no updates selected') then tried to install each update one at a time. Every package gave the same error message, therefore there must be a conflict in the update process, rather than a problem with an individual package. I've e-mailed support, watch this space.

    Answer, in two parts:

    1. For most of you running liveupdate and not connecting, its most likely a problem with the Linux network setup. Can you browse the web via Firefox? Did you have to set up the network settings within firefox, setting a proxy perhaps? The problem is the network setup within Firefox is just for firefox. Liveupdate and any other network utility doesnt read them.

Another issue is if your network blocks certain ports, like my work network, to prevent filesharing, online gaming, streaming radio etc. I find it also blocks some "valid" software from accessing the internet to update. Most work, windows update etc., but some, like the Latex package updater, do not. Seems to be my network specifically allows windows update, but the didnt enable the ports Latex and other Linux-based package updaters use.

I gave up: at work I just use firefox with our proxy configation enabled. I leave updates until I get home, where I have a direct connection.

    2. Don't mess around with the advanced settings until you know what you are doing .... or don't mind reinstalling from time to time. The package updater is not the same thing as liveupdate. The package updater is broken because the Acer/Linpus customizations broke it // in order for / as a consequence of // getting the liveupdate utility to manage the updates.
