Ok, so another person with great aero desktop evaluation. Is that another error? Is there a different way to evaluate the aero performance? I´m ready for any test!! Hit me.

I'm reading here http://www.netbookmarket.net/intel-gma950-vs-gma500/ that max shared video memory for gma 500 is 256mb, but in my case the video memory is 763mb. I saw that using dxdiag. Can someone tell me if those are the numbers you're gettng. I guess most of the people doesn't get 763mb of video memory and that's why they don't get 4,5 in aero desktop evaluation like I do. Please check your dxdiag so we can compare.

Mine showed the same as yours.

I'm sure that is because 256mb is the minimum is will use but it can go up to 763mb depending on system resources (most likely related to how much ram you have installed).

I'm still convinced your 4,5 is erroneous.

me being me.. i have to always try out any updates they throw at us. ..minus the BIOS updates i stopped at 3210 when i heard of them causing AspireBricks.. so i dont think im going to mess with those for a bit. and that's horrible you wont get to have your laptop for a while!! i'd be so lost without mine. hopefully you'll have it back soon! and for the most part it has improved youtube video playback in fullscreen.. but for HD it's still lagging a bit but not as bad, it has actually stepped up just a few frames. but not many. i do think it is worth upgrading to though. have a good day!!

Seems to run hula movies just OK in standard frame form. Unable to even come close in full screen format. I doubt that the 751h Acer will ever be able to stream video without frame drops. And I don't care as I never watch video or almost never watch video on my unit.

well hulu does use flash video if i'm not mistaken. flash is a total resource hog and is not very efficient. there was a beta flash version i tried before i sent my computer off for repair that seemed to help quite a bit with youtube videos.
also I've used the netflix streaming service which uses microsoft silverlight and it was very good quality. i'd say really near dvd quality at least. no skipping of frames...that was with the 2023 driver.
does the new 2024 driver help with the stability of the system as a whole? maybe less freezing?

not much.. but im hoping they'll get it right soon i'd really like to be able to watch playable HD youtube videos on it. but there is SOME improvement but not much, like i said it is worth downloading and using.i did notice videos have a fairly good framerate in full screen..but that's only standard and not HD. maybe someday soon?

Is there any way to change the amount of ram allocated to the graphics card? I have 2 gigs of ram in my computer and for some odd reason DXDIAG says it has allocated 764 megs or somewhere around there to the graphics. This is definately a waste for a card that can not even play games or HD video. I would say no more than 256 is necessary.

i think that's just stating how much it has incase it needs it, but these are (supposedly) made to only use as much as needed.. but i see where you see that.. it's just the maximum it can use on its own.. from what i've read.. but as far as changing it i dont think you can because once again it's only using as much as it needs.

New gma 500 driver released (5.0.0.2024)!! I just downloaded from intel site and installed it. It's almost the same old driver with little corrections in video reproduction. Has anyone tested it?
In games, it's the same exact performance that I got with the previous driver. The windows evaluation is also the same.

Hi; I have the new .24 driver and was looking at properties and it states that "Enable Performance Mode" is checked. I have searched and searched as someone told me to uncheck this to make videos better. I was wondering what it does and why it would be better to disable it? It seems to go against what it says to enable performance. Thanks.

There are two options: "Enable Performance Mode" of the graphics card and "Power Saving Mode" (or something like that) of the monitor. There's a possibility that you confused these two options, since "Enable Performance Mode" will probably speed up your system and will probably lead to less "freeze" of your netbook. I have never seen that disabling this option will improve the performance of the card/system... :?
