I'm looking at the AO1 11.6 machine but with 1GB of memory. I don't particularly care for Vista and I don't need a 200GB HDD. But is it possible to upgrade one of the 1GB machines to 2GB RAM? I've read from others that 1.5GB is max... What's the scoop?

I am not sure about the 11.6 model but the 10.1 model has added a panel on the bottom of the case giving access to the RAM and it has one memory slot that (on mine) came with 1Gb which to upgrade requires removing the 1Gb card and replacing it with a 2Gb card of the same type. I suspect the same is true for the 11.6 model.

The original AAO's (AAO A110 and A150) with the 8.9" screens only support a maximum of 1.5 GB ram installed, even though the Intel chipset used on the motherboard, in fact does support a maximum of 2GB ram. The reason is that there is 512 MB ram installed on the motherboard, and there is no way of disabling this ram from being used. That means if one tries to install a 2 GB SO-DIMM module, there will be 2.5 GB ram installed, and the AAO won't boot.

On the newer AAO's (AAO D150 and up) with the larger screens, Acer has included the logic on the motherboard, to prioritize the SO-DIMM slot, so any onboard ram is disabled, when one installs a 2 GB SO-DIMM in the SO-DIMM slot.

So the machine you are looking at, should be upgradeable to 2 GB ram without any problems.

Hope that clarifies it for you.

awightaz - All you would need to do is unscrew two screws on the bottom of the laptop.

Is there a specific RAM model that has to be used on this particular netbook?

    Thank you

To get less HDD activity AND improve your performance
Plus Netbooks use dynamic video memory technology
the more ram you have the better the video performance!
in other words if your App or Game needs more video ram it will be able to have it!

    Install 2gig
    Disable swap file
    Core the os.
    it will be Faster.
    And use Less power!

    Hi...

You can upgrade it up to 2GB. There are many memory modules available in market. One thing you should check before buying it. It is the frequency of the RAM. It should match with the one you have on board right now.

hi there, i just bought a 2GB ram for my 751 and after i install it, it doesn't boot.

    the ram is a 2GB Samsung (2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666-12-E3) M470T5663QH3-CF7 0910

i placed back my 1gb and it works, ok. what is wrong with the picture? maybe wrong type of ram? this is a DDR2 800

    plz help me.. thanks

i am trying to make this laptop work as it should, (overclocked the cpu, installed win 7 since XP was crushing and Youtube refused to play full screen, i am also using ReadyBoost with class 6). another strange thing about this, is that i get a 1,9 CPU Score on the laptop :|, any suggestions there?

I think bkathens is right, the memory module is probably erroneous... as long as it's DDR2 (providing it actually fits into the memory slot...) it doesn't matter whether it's a 666 Mhz module or an 800 Mhz one ;)
