I've got the 1GB model and would like to give it a little more snap by going to 1.5GB. Anyone know of a shop in the Seattle area that can upgrade my Acer without screwing it up?

CAREFULL....check and see if such a mod will void your warranty. Worst case scenario is send it to Acer or check with them for an AUTHORIZED repair facility. There are LOADS of threads in these forums on how to do-it-yourself, including a PDF downloadable tech manual complete with step-by-step photographs. Not for the faint of heart, but if your careful, you can do the upgrade yourself. It does require the almost complete disassembly of the machine to change out the chip. One of the major gripes about the AAO is this fact. Seems the machine could have had a little cover for the changeout as with most laptops, but it may have been a cost cutting area or perhaps one way for Acer to make more money (doing the upgrade). The 1gig chip for this is now on sale at Staples for $19.95.

Bestbuy and almost any other place does it for like $35+Parts

But personally i do it myself, if you want to get it done right you have to do it yourself.

And there are step by step instructions all over the forum even videos pdf pics and a list which ram modules are compatible.

Thanks for all the info above. I'm going to check Best Buy out for this procedure. While I could probably do the job myself, I'm just a little leery about going "inside" and messing around with cable ribbons. I broke a cable to a trackpad on a Sony once (and it was the only cable I had to remove). From watching the videos, it looks like there are several cables/ribbons and then, ALL the small screws.

    Thanks, but no thanks...
