WOW I managed to finally install OPen Office 3. However, I have two things that are not right. I cannot get the updates via the application or via the 'add/remove' software program. How do I resolve this?

Also, I have placed the open office 3.0 icons in the WBar (I am using gOS operating system based on ubuntu 8.4). However, when I click the icons I get the following error - see attached pic.

    Hope someone can help

    Thx

    Garry

If you don’t want to keep 2.4, there is a very easy way to upgrade in Intrepid (8.10)

Just go into System / Administration / Software Sources.

Under the Third-Party Software tab, click Add and add the following line:
    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main

OOo 3.0 is now available in the Update-Manager, and it will install all the dependencies.

it's from one of the comments in the tombuntu link above, it should replace 2.4 completely

Thanks for that but it still doesn't answer my question. I am not using Ubuntu 8.10 I am using gOS 3.0 which is based on Ubuntu 8.4...

to cut it short, I have installed open office 3.0 fine and I have placed the open office 3.0 icons in the WBar (I am using gOS operating system based on ubuntu 8.4). However, when I click the icons I get the following error - see attached pic in previous post.

    Hope someone can help

    Thx

Looks like the launcher isn't pointing to the right place. Can you launch it manually? I don't have OpenOffice.org installed in Ubuntu, but in Fedora
    Code:
    ooffice
    should work
