Have a friend in Cuba who bought an Acer Zg5 laptop with 8GB HD, Windows XP version. He installed new language and is stuck with a real slow machine. He asked me if I could get a better h/drive to replace the 8GB one and anything to increase RAM. As well, he indicated that there was no phone jack only an ethernet jack -- which is pretty much useless in Cuba.

Unfortunately, that is all I know about his machine. I browsed many sites trying to figure out what I could get... and am getting lost in the maze. :(

Here's what I've found (excerpts from message boards, etc):

I will look around see if there is such a thing as an ethernet to phone jack adapter but I would appreciate any advice you can give me as to what type of HP I should get. Are the ones mentioned above good for the Zg5?

Am leaving in 2 days so there is very little time left, hope that I am not asking for the impossible.

    Thanks Thanks Thanks

The SSd model does not have the connector for a SATA hard drive. You can solder a connector to the board and it will work fine, but the lower case was not designed to fit the thicker hard drive. I would suggest some OS version which people have reported as working fine on the SSD model and keep the Zg5 as a SSD model.

Ram is as simple as installing the proper 1g module.

Check ebay for "USB 56K modem".
