ok so i love my aspire 8.9 but it does kinda bother me that the new 10 inch version is coming out. The other thing that bothers me is when looking at the 8.9 i can clearly see that there is enough room for a larger screen. so what are the odds that the 10 inch screen can be modded into the 8.9. the plastics trim looks very similar but i doubt it will swap right over. there is also the possibility of finding a 3rd party screen and bezel that would work. let me know if anyone has any information on this

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to sell your laptop and just buy the 10" version? Not thats its much of an upgrade anyway seeing as its still a measly 1024x600. The LCD connector is proprietry as well so you wont be able to find any aftermarket replacements.

I think I see what hes going for. Wanting the 10" screen without gaining any overall size. I am not sure about the connectors or even how the screen seats. He is right about the proprietary connector. The only possible way would be to remove the screen from a D150 and put it into an A150, which would be a major investment, and Im not even sure if they use the same connector. Even then you would need to have perfect skills with a dremel. Personally I like the idea. There is far too much wasted space on the AA1 bezel. If a had money to throw away I would do it.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the 10" modders to get to it and give us some exact dimensions of the 10" LCD.

C'mon folks! Some of you have had them for 3 or 4 days now! Tear 'em apart!

I've got no interest in a 10" screen if I've gotta go even 1/2 an inch larger in overall footprint, so I won't be upgrading to the new model. But if I could shoehorn a 10" into my current 8.9" AAO? Hmmm ....

yes, my primary concern is keeping the footprint of my 8.9 with the screen of the 10. i guess we will have to wait and see.

Ever put a 19 inch monitor next to a 20 inch monitor? Noticeable difference.

True, though +1" on a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor gets you a larger increase in area than +1.1" on a 16:9 screen. (4:3 19"->20" gives +9.5 sq in, 16:9 8.9"->10" gives +8.5 sq in)

I think resolution is the key factor for a netbook, not screensize.
Thus, I think the 10" AA1 has missed the mark; if it had a 1280x768 screen it'd be a much more attractive upgrade.

    :edit:

I just read a review of the AOD150, and it stated the screen is 10.1"? so a 1.2" increase??

If this mod was possible at all, wouldn't it require you to remove the mic and webcam?

    Hi all,
I know its a very old topic, but still no answer in it.
I've broke screen in my 8.9' one and I wonder to replace it with 10.1'
They almost the same price and I don't care about frame 'cause I will mod the lid anyway.
Are the connections and power inverter the same in both 8.9 and 10.1 screens? Any one tried if it works?

My screen is cracked and I'm about to replace it. I've been trying to research and all I can determine so far is that it that are both a 40 pin connector. I don't know if they are both the same 40 pin connector. If the 10.1 screen will interface with a 8.9" aspire then I will go ahead and buy it make a bezel or try and use a 10.1 bezel for it.

If anyone has any info on this please let us know.
