I'm seeing 960 fps in glxgears on a 512 MB AAO running the bundled linpus.

I got these numbers by upgrading to the 2.2.1 driver (except for commenting out the videoram line in the xorg.conf, because that seemed to take up more memory without bringing any performance advantage), then by changing the write-combining, and finally by upgrading mesa-libGL.

Everything still works, without glitches or hangs. The updates didn't just improve 3d performance. Firefox is noticeably faster, and scrolling is smoother.

mesa-libGLw-devel.i386 : Mesa libGLw development package

mesa-libGL.i386 : Mesa libGL runtime libraries and DRI drivers
mesa-libGLU.i386 : Mesa libGLU runtime library
    ... but still ...

    Code:
    [user@localhost ~]$ sudo yum -y update mesa-libGL
    audit_log_user_command(): Connection refused
    Setting up Update Process
Could not find update match for mesa-libGL

    Package mesa-libGL - 7.0.1-7.fc8.i386 is already installed.
    Nothing to do

Hi all :) . just joined up and want to say what a great forum you guys have made this . Give yourselves a big pat on the back .

Right , down to business . I read with interest about upgrading the intel graphics driver and upgrading the mesa-libGL . My average score before the upgrade was around 460 , but after upgrading and a reboot i,m now around the 1200 fps mark . Now i know faster is better , but has anybody else achieved a score like this ?

heres a screenshot of my terminal just to prove it :)

p.s - forgot to say i only upgraded the mesa-libgl through the package manager.

yowza! I'm crawling along at a miserable 550 on Intrepid :( apparently the difference is the new driver and the new X server don't have support for some of the things that have been giving us these good speeds. The best combination seems to be to use the i810 driver (not intel modesetting, the old i810), the previous X stable version and relevant driver version, and apply the Batch intel hack... alas not on Intrepid.

Cheers on your numbers though :) welcome to the forum

    by doing
    Code:
    sudo yum install mesa-libGL*
you gain nothing:p even seems slower (but fixes itself after reboot)

    Code:
    [user@localhost ~]$ glxgears
    1882 frames in 5.0 seconds = 376.293 FPS
    2040 frames in 5.0 seconds = 407.860 FPS
    2097 frames in 5.0 seconds = 419.277 FPS
    2094 frames in 5.0 seconds = 418.661 FPS
    2087 frames in 5.0 seconds = 417.253 FPS
    1897 frames in 5.0 seconds = 379.227 FPS

    [user@localhost ~]$

has anyone who downloaded a new driver, already tryed running guild wars?? i'm very curious if it is able to run with a nw driver.

I have read that the devs asked that benchmarks be done with a 3D (tuxracer?) game instead of glxgears... Because glxgears doesn't really draw 500 frames per seconds on a monitor... It's useful to test between similar configurations, but not between distri or between hardy and ibex. Just saying, myself I don't know any better.
